I did the update to 0.4.1 and its is awesome and quicker, but I cant play youtube through it, which I managed quite well before updating!! any ideas? :huh: Keeps saying "Playback failed, one or more of your videos failed to work/play"
Anybody noticing the screen saver automatically disables after X amount of time?
My screen will dim, as per the defined settings, but then will randomly brighten a couple or so minutes later without any UI interaction from the user.
So far everything works fine for me! Saw the menu item to update and restart. I did notice a couple of weird permissions errors on a mv command in the boot startup but it kept on going and updated. The Extras feature looks awesome.
I had the same errors but everything seemed to work ok after it finished and rebooted.
Thanks for all the hard work Rasplex team! Looking forward to the full release.

I've never noticed this, and I normally leave RasPlex running 24/7. Most of the time I use the Fanart screensaver mode, and this is always still running when I return to the TV (whether still running or after I turn it on). Previously I mostly used the 'Dim' mode, just like you do, and I never had the problem you describe with that mode either.
I think the problem you see may be due to some spurious interaction packet from whatever unit you use to control RasPlex.
I use a very reliable USB-RF connected mini keyboard that never gives spurious packets, which is why I never see this. But I have other keyboards which would do it all the time, due to bad coding in their internal programs.
And if you use CEC control through your TV remote and TV set, then you are also subject to features and bugs of their coding. Some spurious packets intended to check continued connectivity could very well trigger the screensaver as incoming user input.
And if you have any mouse connected to your RPi (for use in Linux or whatever), then all kinds of vibrations may cause the mouse to send packets too. This may also seem spurious, but is really correct, since even slight air vibrations and sounds may cause single-pixel movement detection in a modern high-def mouse, which should result in movement packets sent.

Figured it was either the CEC control as that is the primary control that I use. However never noticed this behaviour before this build using the same setup.
I'll play around with the screen saver settings a little. There is no mouse or keyboard connected, just the CEC control and iOS devices when they are connected.

Then it probably is related to issues other people have reported, concerning changes in CEC and HDCP functionality. RasPlex 0.4.1 uses a new generation of drivers compared to rc4, as required for compatibility with the new RPi B+ model. I suspect that something about those new drivers may be affecting these HDMI-based protocols, causing these problems.

I assume the CEC control is always 'connected' while the hardware is powered at both ends, but what about your iOS devices ? Are they normally connected to the RPi in any way when you observe the symptoms ?
Finally Hi10 really start transcoding (for me), unfortunatelly after a few minutes/seconds of playback i get only green screen with ocational blue and yellow and red flashes until i perform jump in the movie - than it plays ok again, but tat is probably issue with transcoder.
Finally updated to a 1080p tv (yeah, finally). Excited to finally be able to use 24,25 and 30 hz modes. However, it seems to have some issues detecting this on boot up. Half the time only 60/50hz is available. I'm feeding it through a receiver that is getting a bit glitchy lately, so that could be the culprit. Don't know it anyone else has this problem, so I'm putting it out there. Apart from that everything seems great.
If your receiver doesn't output those modes then you won't be able to use them, suggest plugging Pi direct to TV and then try modes again.
Note: Similar issue with 4.1 using HDMI to DVI adapter and PC monitors. With 4.0 I see rainbow and get full boot/functionality on Monitors and TV. With 4.1 I do not see Rainbow on PC monitors (tested 4:3 and Widescreen) and screen remains black (backlight comes on), but works fine on TV with HDMI. Appears to be a pre-boot issue with 4.1.
Love 4.1, thanks for the update. I had been using PlexIT to get movie trailers for my wife but now AMT works again and I get trailers in the movie selection. Still missing FF and RW but can live without it. Thanks guys for all the hard work!
Keith
Can you SSH in to your Pi and enter:
tvservice --modes=CEA when its connected to you Monitor and report the output.

Have just installed YouTube, all videos play fine, suggest using Plex Web to Uninstall and then Reinstall.
Thanks for the post NedtheNerd, I tried it and it worked great, thanks. I don't know why I didn't try that in the first place, probably cause I installed it after the update I didn't think it was the install to blame. But thanks anyway.
And an extra audio track (commentary) with HE-AAC codec
Plex web, PHT for PC and PHT for rasplex fails to show any media info for these files and Rasplex will not play them
It is defiantly something to do with the HE-AAC audio because this only happens on files that have this, ( took me a long time to find that out :mellow: )
Although PHT for PC doesnt show any media info it manages to play them.
Was running rc4 and could direct stream Blu Ray Rips directly with no issues using an external receiver for DD and DTS with HDMI to a 1080P TV.
Auto Updated to 4.1 which went very smoothly, however cannot play my 2 standard 1080P test movies. (Avatar and The Dark Night, first uses AVC and the later uses VC-1) as they stutter. Dropped back to rc4 and all is fine.
The Pi's are overclocked and I do have the Night Skin loaded which should not affect the actual playback.

That does seem to indicate a definite problem, and since it was an auto-update all settings should be identical for the tests with both versions. Right ?

I agree that it should not. But thing don't always work the way we think they should... It's a fact that even when no skin display effects are visible, some skin code is still in use. And the "Night" skin is much more demanding in all that it does than the original default skin.
Don't get me wrong now. That's an excellent skin and I like it a lot myself. But in nearly all of my experiments of using it with RasPlex I end up with a crash of some kind, probably due to having exhausted available RAM at some point.
And even with no visible skin effects on screen, excessive RAM usage is one of those things that can affect playback.
So please repeat your playback tests of those movies while using the original 'Plex' skin.
Thanks dlanor, I should have tried with the Plex skin as an engineer I should know better than trust the "it shouldn't make any difference" way of thinking :-)
I have the following in my config.txt
hdmi_force_hotplug=1
hdmi_drive=2
gpu_mem_256=64
gpu_mem_512=200
gpu_freq=350
arm_freq=950
core_freq=450
sdram_freq=450
over_voltage=2
CPU shows pretty much maxed out at 100% when playing either The Dark Night or Avatar

In order for me to playback BluRay's I had to set it to maximum over clocking!
arm_freq=1000
core_freq=500
sdram_freq=500
over_voltage=6
Also make sure you have the optional VC-1 codec installed.
I use "The Darknight" BluRay as a benchmark and so far it has been playing back fine!
I do however always re-install from scratch instead of an auto update with each new update. Kinda leaves a lot of the guess work out;)
