RasPlex 0.5.1 released - issues and feedback

First time user of RasPlex, have got the pi2 and loaded 0.5.1 and a few skins (Black, Black remix, umega) and they all run  great, nice and smooth and all the media that I have tried so far has worked fine.

The  pi2 runs PHT at least as well as my shuttle xs35gt v2 and that cost me a hell  of a lot more to setup than the pi2

Great job guys, thanks.

I am noticing that the navigation "click's" come and go randomly. I never really missed not having them in the previous version but now hearing them come and go is kinda annoying

I'm seeing this too, seems to be a bug in the latest PHT version but only crops up on Linux. I see it every time I reboot my pi2 with 0.5.1, never on any of the older versions (whether running on the pi2 with berryboot or the last year with my pi1) - the only fix for now is to switch skins, but it comes back after every reboot.

EDIT: I see KnightOrc has a potential solution for this, will try it later!

Can confirm. That fixed the issue.

I can't get this setting to survive a reboot, so I don't know if it would fix the problem for me or not.  Every time the restart completes it's turned off.  (rPi 2, 0.5.1)

I see several errors appear in the Plex for OpenELEC screen about being unable to create directories and stuff, but it goes by so fast I can't get specifics.

Also, can't SSH into the rPi, despite the fact that it says SSH is enabled in settings (when I try to toggle the setting, but button flashes off briefly, before coming back on by itself).

And the clock is wrong, by a lot.  Tried to set specific ntp servers (though I've never had to do that in any of the previous releases), but that setting doesn't survive a restart either.  I'd SSH into to see what it thinks the time is right now, but I can't.

So in short: I guess it just doesn't work very well.

I've flashed the sd card twice now, using the installer in Linux.  Don't know what else to try.

I am convinced that i experience this myself as well. Even though I up until now have thought it was due to stopping on Samsung TV-Plex (where resume on these movies works) and then resuming on RasPlex. Have it on both RPi and RPi2 and on 0.5.0 and 0.5.1...Very anoying when the kids move about the house watching their stuff.

Will try to validate that it is multipart later on but looks like we have the same issue....

Verified this now between the Samsung Plex-app and RasPlex; Resuming does not work on multipart movies on RasPlex. The GUI shows that it wants to resume only to start from the beginning instead. Works on single file movies though...

Hey,

I have some problems/improvements:

  1. Speed

I have the problem that the covers from my movies and tv shows are loading very slow. And the “On Deck” animation for movies and the other stuff are also very slow. I don’t know if you guys can fix that, but if you can do that you are great!

  2. Interface

The actuall Interface are great but i think the apps for xbox, roku or the other plex clients are better (thats my opinon).

  3. Customize “Home Site”

I think it should be also awesom if I can choose the the libaries or topics in the ‘Home Site’.

    And now a question:

Can I set a “first” language? I want to set a primar language for all media.

And now a question:
Can I set a "first" language? I want to set a primar language for all media.

Can't offer any advice on point 1. When posting on this forum you need to specify information about your hardware, settings, etc.

Regarding point 2. If you prefer the interface on XBox, Roku or other Plex Clients then use one of those, or try a different skin.

Point 3. This has been answered already by someone else. You can also change the setting in Preferences.

Hey,
I have some problems/improvements:

OK, but you have neglected the first rule of all problem reports, which is to describe WHAT it is you have problems with.
You only describe the problems themselves, saying nothing about the hardware and software configuration where they appear.
In the partial replies further below I will emphasize some of the things we need to know more about, relevant to each.
Here I will specify some of the things that should be included with EVERY report on RasPlex.

What is your RPi type: RPi1 or RPi2 ? (Here RPi1 includes both "RPi model B" and "RPi model B+"
The difference is crucial to everything involving speed, bitrate capacity and GUI fluency.

If your type is RPi1, is it overclocked or not ?
And if overclocked, what are the parameters for it used in "config.txt" ?

What is your connection type: Wired or Wireless ?
The difference is crucial to everything involving PMS transfers, both for playback and GUI graphics.

Some of your questions seem related less to RasPlex than to "Plex Media Server" (aka: PMS) or official "Plex Home Theater" (aka: PHT).
So to request changes for some of these things you need to post in other subforums, dedicated to PMS and 'official' PHT.

1. Speed
I have the problem that the covers from my movies and tv shows are loading very slow. And the "On Deck" animation for movies and the other stuff are also very slow. I don't know if you guys can fix that, but if you can do that you are great!

Have you used the sidemenu command "Control Precaching" to ensure that you have local copies of all posters for RasPlex ?
This affects GUI speed, as it allows local access to posters for listings rather than fetching them from PMS each time.
The first time used the precaching operation can take a long time (depends on your library size),
but thereafter you don't need to do it very often (only when you've added a lot of new content).

2. Interface
The actuall Interface are great but i think the apps for xbox, roku or the other plex clients are better (thats my opinon).

'apps' are no part of RasPlex. The online services it can access depend on the 'channels' installed for your PMS.
You're probably referring to non-Plex apps/channels used in those other media players in addition to their Plex support.
If you're unhappy about the "Channels" available for PMS, please bring that issue up in a subforum dedicated to PMS.
In this particular subforum we deal ONLY with issues related to the RasPlex implementation of PHT.

3. Customize "Home Site"
I think it should be also awesom if I can choose the the libaries or topics in the 'Home Site'.

The appearance of the GUI's main menu, like all GUI rendering, is intended to be an exact copy of that in 'official' PHT.
There will be no changes to the GUI, except for such features required by the RPi hardware or the underlying OpenELEC system.
(Like the "Control Precaching" and "System Settings" commands in the side menu.)

That said, you can install custom skins for RasPlex, just as you can do for 'official' PHT, to modify many aspects of the GUI.
This includes some re-modelling of the main menu in some skins, though the extent differs (possibly not what you wanted).

And now a question:
Can I set a "first" language? I want to set a primar language for all media.

Not in the RasPlex GUI. Such a feature does not exist in 'official' PHT, and thus not in RasPlex either.
But like hthighway said, there is a setting for preferred tracks in PMS, which will affect ALL clients, not just PHT/RasPlex.

When a movie contains multiple audio tracks the playback should use the one flagged as default in the file or by PMS,
unless you override that choice yourself either in the pre-play screen or in the OSD menu opened during playback.
Individual choices made in the Plex/Web media manager also seem to affect/override file defaults for PHT/RasPlex,
but the choices made in the PHT/RasPlex GUI can always override either default.

He's talking about the XBox (One and 360) and Roku 'Preview Release' Client apps, not Channels.

He seems to prefer the crappy, new (now standard for all new Plex official clients), user interface, also used on the Plex Smart TV and Playstation Client apps, personally I hate it, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. The new Plex HT Client, when it's ready, will also feature this crappy new look, so, eventually, will Rasplex, with no way to re skin it.

Hi,

My first Rasperry Pi here, version 2

Install etc worked flawlessly.

Thanks heaps for the effort put in.

I did start with XBMC but compared to Plex it's rubbish :)

Just a couple of things I thought I would mention

Samsung new 9 series remote using hdmi-cec the back / return button not working.

It brings up what looks like a console type debug command which shows a whole heap of information about cpu, cache, memory usage etc. 4 lines of info up the top of the screen

Makes it, not impossible to use, (I can bring up the tools and select PT Main Menu to go back) but close to it. :(

I tried DVBLink live TV and could get sound but no picture. This worked when I had XBMC installed

I think I also had the issue where the movie wouldn't resume from where it left of and go back to the start , but that seemd to resolve itself after a few times.

(Yes the Plex is installed directly onto the TV, but I'm testing the Pi2 so..)

All in all fantastic first release you should be proud

Do you mean we will not be able to use other skins with  rasplex ?

Me and other people have noticed that high bitrate movies stuttering but only with enable ac3 passthrough. If we disable passthrough everything woks fine.

I have no idea if this is an issue in 0.5.1 or something else.

But before I repeat the complete thread I´ll give you the link. Maybe someone take a look.

If the PHT development actually proceeds all the way as Ned outlined...
If the official Plex devs really are that stupid...

Then the official PHT might lose its ability to support custom skins.
And then this 'flagship' Plex client would become a mere copy of the inflexible crap Plex apps for various platforms.

But at that point I don't see why we would have any incentive to port such crap into RasPlex.

Hopefully the "OpenPHT" project will by then have matured sufficiently for this to be ported instead.

But personally I still hope that sanity will prevail, and that the official Plex devs will decide not to ruin the PHT project.

Not all TV manufacturers implement CEC the same with regard to button configuration, they map buttons that fit with their range of CEC enabled devices, not necessarily any third party devices.

However, all is not lost, see this topic https://forums.plex.tv/topic/150209-cec-remote-buttons-how-do-i-find-out-which-button-has-been-pressed/?p=865067, with 10 minutes work you be able to map your remotes buttons to something better suited to yourself.

Personally I find the standard plex skin unattractive and boring, if they were to remove the skinning option I probably would  stop using it.

Has anyone had luck getting multi-channel LPCM output?  I'm still not seeing an option to enable multichannel LPCM, so FLAC 5.1/7.1 and AAC 5.1 gets downmixed to LPCM 2.0 when sent to the receiver.  Any suggestions or has this issue not been fixed?  DTS and AC3 bitstreaming work fine.

Recently I came across a bugtracker thread for Rasplex on Github.  The developers expect it to be resolved in 0.6.1.  The thread stated it expected it to be released within a couple of weeks.  The post is about 11 days old now.

EDIT:  I found the bugtracker entry.  https://github.com/RasPlex/RasPlex/issues/268

NedtheNerd confirmed it that it is fixed for the next release a couple of days ago.

Hope this helps.

Did you overclock your RPI ? On an Pi 1, it's pretty much mandatory.
