RasPlex 0.5.1 released - issues and feedback

on a RPi 2, the "on deck" and "recently added" don't come up on the main screen often.  maybe 1 out of 4 reboots.

CEC works perfect on reboot but flakes when I turn the TV off or switch inputs.  works fine with all my other CEC devices.  I have a pulse 8 adapter on my PC that I'm going to try and disconnect and see if that helps at all.  I'll report back in a day or two

sometimes it doesn't find my media server even though I'm logged into myplex (search and watch later are the only things that come up).  This seems to happen when I try to run my RPi off the usb from my receiver.  Is there a way to get the Pi to turn on from CEC?  My TV keeps power to the USB all the time so thats not really an option either

Thanks

The disappearing On Deck and Recently Added is a known issue, the fix currently:

Settings -> Network -> Advanced Network Settings -> Wait for network before starting XBMC

I'm not sure what you mean by "turn on" the Pi via CEC as the Pi boots the minute it has power. As far as I know once you've selected the Shutdown option in rasplex the only way to "turn on" or reboot the pi is to plug out the power and plug it back in again.

If, as you're saying, your TV provides power via USB even when in standby then your best bet is to run rasplex 24/7 without power cycling. The USB from your receiver may not be providing enough amps and is causing issues for rasplex, so watch out for this with the TV USB as well.

I also have a pulse8 adapter connected to my TV and both it and the pi work side by side without any issues. You might try changing some of the settings in rasplex under Input Devices - Peripherals to see if that solves the disconnecting HDMI-CEC. I can switch inputs and CEC works great all the time. 2013 Samsung TV.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm going to try disconnecting the pulse eight first and then if that works then force the HDMI port in the RPi config.  I'm running everything through my receiver and it seems that people have more issues with CEC in that configuration. I'll post back what I find.

Leaving the the RPi on 24/7 isn't a big deal to me either.

Overall RasPlex runs outstanding in comparison to the windows version which i had so many more problems with than the mac version.  The PS4 version is also a flaming POS IMO.

Thanks to all involved

edit: forgot to mention that when I skip forward or back in a video the indicator bar at the bottom only flashes for a hot second.

Picked up a RPi 2 a few weeks so I could try it out. Good timing for me as the recent Fire TV Plex app update has turned out badly. Had reverted to using Plex for Samsung app on a Samsung Blu Ray player, which is a fallback, not a real solution. I have four Samsung Smart Hub devices and have been looking for alternatives. The Roku3 and then The Fire TV were purchased in an attempt to get away from the limitaions of that client. The RPi 2 and Rasplex is the latest possible alternative I'm testing - it's still early, but this is looking really good. :D  The thing that is tempering my enthusiasm is the nagging fear that Plex Inc. will somehow mess with things to the point where this setup becomes obsolete.

Anyways, I am getting some use out of the Samsung Blu as I am using the remote with a Flirc.

I did have an issue with a few thumbnails not showing up. This only presented itself after trying out different skins. Restarting and powering down didn't remedy, but a soft reset did. Everything is working wonderfully now - thank you to everyone who has put the effort in to make something like this possible.

I am using Plex Black Edition skin - Very Nice!

PI2 performance on 0.5.1 is just great.

But if i try to resume a transcoded file, it always starts from the beginning :-/ any fixes for this yet ?

Hey,

nice release. The only issue i have is that the watch status bubble (unwatched/partly watched/watched) does not work automatically. After every TV show i have to mark the video manually.

Other clients (like my Samsung SmartTV) are able to change the status bubble.

#RPi 2 with Raspley 0.5.1

I reported the exact same issue a couple of posts ago, only going back to 0.4.1 (same settings everywhere client-wise) "fixed" the problem...

Dear all,

I ran 0.4.1 (B model) for a couple of months now without any issues (well, except for the not working AirPlay, which would be a very nice feature to have ;)).

Yesterday I made a clean install of 0.5.1 and since then I can't resume any video from where I stopped it--the half-filled circle doesn't show up anymore. Related to that, every time I finish an episode of a TV show, the On Deck screen leaves it marked "unwatched" rather than "watched". I have to set it to "watched" manually.

It's really annoying (especially the resuming issue) especially since nobody else seems to have this problem?

Cheers,
SnakeP

Hi,

so, I still get the same result. The annoying thing is that it only occurs for 0.5.1:

0.4.1 on Rasp Pi B works fine

0.5.1 on same Rasp Pi B doesn't let me resume any video (the bubble is always full ;))

0.5.1 on Rasp Pi 2 doesn't let me resume any video either

From 0.4.1 to 0.5.1 I didn't change any setting on the PMS (running 0.9.11.7 btw). A back-to-back comparison with my Pi B shows that the 0.4.1 is still working. Could someone please provide a (hidden?) setting for the PMS or another solution for this problem? Or could I provide any logs? I'm connected to myPlex btw and it doesn't matter whether I use transcoding or not.

Cheers

To be clear, is this only an issue with TV shows since I cannot replicate. I can resume any video content and watched status indicators work as expected. I will try to post some screenshots of my system resuming tomorrow. (Bit late here and just watching a movie). I will also check the next release to make sure that it works as my 0.5.1.

Can you turn debug on, reboot your Pi, play a minute of video, stop, exit, select same video and attempt to resume, play a minute of video (either resumed or from start) and post the plexhometheater.log in this topic. Thanks.

Plex Inc cannot mess things up, this is a third party Plex client. The On Deck/Recently Added missing artwork is know and fixed in next release. If you have generally missing thumbs did you pre-cache the libraries?

Why use FLIRC, if you have a CEC enabled TV, use that, in fact jdbrookes has just posted a revised CEC keymap.xml file to get the most out of the Samsung remote, see this post https://forums.plex.tv/topic/150209-cec-remote-buttons-how-do-i-find-out-which-button-has-been-pressed/?p=866479

I wasn't thinking about Plex messing things up by changing things on the client end. I'm a cynical (possibly paranoid) guy who was thinking this is too good to be true - something will surely rain on my parade.

Good to know about the On Deck/Recently Added. I did pre-cache prior to the missing thumbs issue. All the thumbs did show up originally. It was only after changing skins, that the missing thumbs issue occurred - 5 series level thumbs in TV library. All is well now.

The TV I'm connected to is a 2006 Samsung DLP. I don't think it has CEC capability. Thank you for providing the link, as I do have a couple of newer Samsung TV's that will very likely have a RPi2 with Rasplex attached to them in the near future.

Thanks for the reply.

So after leaving rasplex on all night with my other pulse eight device disconnected and rasplex manually pointed to the correct HDMI port everything works perfect.

Today I will try the same thing except with my other pulse eight adapter connected to a different HDMI port.  I have a feeling it will work fine

I recently swapped one of my RPi -> RPi2 and after installation, I'm unable to see the RPi2 on my Android App to cast to.  The original RPi is still there.

Perhaps I just missed something?

Thanks for your help

I posted this on another thread, but since this is a 0.5.1 issue I'll post it here too.  I can't seem to disable CEC completely via the config.txt file.  The recommended settings to kill CEC don't stop it from being recognized by my TV.  Can anyone else confirm?

I can confirm. I've tried the config.txt settings but every time RasPlex boots i get the pop up notification that a CEC adapter has been detected. I too would like to find a way to disable that.

I'd probably leave it enabled if it weren't for the fact my Raspberry does strange things in the background while I'm on another input (using the TV remote). So in light of that, it's useless.  I'd rather use an IR remote.

Try set Settings -> Network -> Advanced Network Settings -> Wait for network before starting XBMC, this seems to fix that issue for me.

I have tried this solution but i cant get it to work. I ran Rasplex 0.5.1 on my RPI 2 and use the multiboot Berryboot if it makes any different..

I can see On Deck or Recently Added for Movies and TV Shows on the home screen after the install of Rasplex but after a reboot they disaper every time.. Any more ideas? Or is it impossible to get it to work perfekt with Berryboot?

The bootup procedure is obviously different when using BerryBoot, which may make the fix KnightOrc suggested fail for some cases.

Another thing you can try which usually works for me is to go to the submenu Preferences > Appearance > Advanced > Skin and try to make a skin change, even to the same skin you're already using. You should note that the system becomes unresponsive for a while (processing the skin change), after which it should work normally again. And hopefully this skin re-initialization has restored the functionality of the 'On Deck' and 'Recently Added' fanouts. This has worked for me a number of times.

I am a long time raspbmc/openelec user who has recently migrated to plexbmc.  I am running on 5.1 on a Pi2.  I was originally running a mythtv backend on a linux box; I have recently retired that box and installed a Synology NAS running TVheadend.  My original openelec ran livetv with the NAS just fine.  The some is true when I put an openelec installation on the pi2.

There is a wiki entry regarding enabling LiveTV on rasplex.  Essentially this is done by switching to the Confluence skin and doing the work there.  There is clearly something more subtle going on here because when I do this I find that the confluence pages associated with livetv, addons, and a few other items are not populated.  In essence it seems that if the setup item was not available under the Ples skin then it's not populated under confluence.  I can't involke the advaced settings option - that's doesn't show either.  It seems to me that I'm missing something - any ideas?  I also note that I am not able to add new skins either under confluence or plex.

I use livetv as my VCR - it would be really useful to have it under rasplex.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Otherwise it works as advertized for me and seems to be a nice piece of work..

Thanx,

Al

Just flashed an mSD to use on my new Pi 2. I’m not getting any audio with the exact same settings/cables I used with my model B Pi. Connected straight to my TV with HDMI, it’s set as HDMI output.

Nothing here works http://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/audio-config.md

The file I’m trying is your standard .mkv 720p with h.264 & AC3 audio. Direct Play = no audio. transcoded = still nothing. The file in question played perfectly when I played it to my iPad instead. All of my TV shows do this now, old Pi they were fine.

Ps I never owned those other codecs you can buy on my old Pi either so I doubt it’s one of those I need.

PPS No my TV isn’t muted, the volume is up…etc :stuck_out_tongue:

Not sure if this has been mentioned in this thread yet, but can't find it by searching on "sound" so here goes:

I have a new Pi2 running RasPlex 0.5.1 and am experiencing random sound drop-outs during playback.

It is very weird the sound just decreases quickly to nothing for about a second and then increases back again.

It happens randomly about once a minute. Sound is over HDMI to my amp.

This is when playing a standard def MP4 TV show, and also on 720p H264 MKV files as well.

If I swap out the Pi2 with my PiB+ running RasPlex 0.4.1 the same shows all play fine without any sound issues.

(I haven't yet tried the PiB+ running 0.5.1)

I thought it may be related to the 1000mhA power supply I originally had, but using a 2000mhA power supply has not made any difference.

Is this is a known issue?

RasPlex is a port of "Plex Home Theater" intended to work exactly like PHT on a PC.
It is not a port of original XBMC and will lack any XBMC features lacked by PHT on a PC.

I'm not saying that what you want can't be done, as I don't know that for sure.
But if it can be done then it's probably best to develop and test the method for it with PHT on a normal PC first.
Once that has been done it should be possible to transfer any working methods to a RasPlex setup.

That should work for normal HDMI sound, without any tweaking. And it does work this way for the vast majority of users.
We need to find out what is specific for your use case.

Nothing here works http://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/audio-config.md

None of that should be needed to achieve normal HDMI sound output.

Perhaps not by manual settings, but it could be something that happens through misapplied CEC commands, if your TV set has a different 'dialect' of CEC implemented.
The CEC protocol usage varies greatly between TV manufacturers, and for some sets it must be disabled completely at both ends (both in TV menus and in RasPlex menus).

The CEC libs used for RasPlex have changed in some recent versions, and that may have changed its interactions with your TV.

In your place I would go through all CEC related settings in both the TV and in RasPlex to disable as much as possible of them, and while doing this I would also check all audio related settings to make sure that these are OK.
(I assume you already checked that the audio is not passed out to the RPi2 stereo jack instead of the HDMI port.)
