RasPlex 0.6.0 released - Issues and Feedback

Thanks a lot for your really great work!!

I use Rasplex to transcode videos from a remote PMS. Everything is working fine, except one issue: Resume while transcoding still does not work. The videos always start from the beginning. I have seen this issue resolved in PHT 1.3.7.

Are there plans to switch from PHT 1.3.5 to 1.3.7 in the next release ?

*edit*

donation incoming, rasplex is just awesome.

Next release will have the full PHT1.3.7 (or maybe 1.3.8) which will fix resuming transcoded media.

Regards

Do you have a VC1 key installed?  RPi needs a key for VC1 and MPEG2 codec, most likely PMS is trying to transcode your video if you don't have your keys installed.

I do have the VC1 key (and MPEG2).  I will check and make sure that they are properly enabled.

And thank you to the dev team -- donation on way.

Thanks for all the hard work! How does one donate please?

OK - donated. Many thanks!

Just one question concerning hyperion. How is it possible to update it if needed? Will we have to wait until the next releases upgrades of Rasplex to have hyperion updated or is it still possible to do it manually? Thanks

That thread mentions an "Enable pass through" setting as the reason it's not working. I don't see that setting in my Rasplex. I'm pretty sure it was there before in 0.5.

It is still there in Audio Output - 'Dolby Digital (AC3) capable receiver' and 'DTS capable receiver', same as enable passthrough, different terminology between Kodi and Plex.

Update regarding the CEC problem I had:

Switched to a shorter HDMI cable, and now everything seems to work fine again.

Update 2:

Was a bit quick with my conclusions.
The problem persists. The reason it worked better was that I now am using the USB port on the TV, which means that Raspery Pi is turned on and off every time I turn off and on my TV.

So unfortunately, the problem remains :-(

Hi first post new to the pi scene.

I was given one of the first pi’s (256) version. Rasplex 0.6.0 just sticks at the now loading screen. Can anyone help me please?

Yes, Rasplex won't run on a 256 RPi1, sorry.

Alright -- I seem to have a problem playing mkv movies encoded in VC1 if the source of the rip was an HD-DVD.  I have a lot of old HD-DVDs that I have been ripping to my Plex Server.  Most HD-DVDs are encoded in VC1.

The issue I have is that the VC1 encoded video (sourced from an HD-DVD) is transcoded by the server to H264 and outputs at 30fps (resulting in horrible motion).  Blu Ray sourced VC1 mkv video is direct played @ 24 fps.

I do have the VC1 license, and it is enabled.  RasPlex is set to output 24fps -- but even if I set it to 60fps -- the HD-DVD rips play at 30fps.

Why is my RasPlex telling my server to transcode - when it can play VC1?  Why is the framerate off?

UPDATE:  I determined that the issue with HD DVDs ripped by MakeMKV is that the framerate comes out wonky (30fps) due to a 3:2 pull down flag present in all HD DVDs.  However, with MKVToolNix, I am able to remux the MKV file and set the framerate to a constant 24 fps.  That solved the motion and balky picture.

Now the video is smooth as glass.  BUT .... still getting transcoded.  Plex confirms that the file is VC1 codec.  I have the license on my RasPlex , but my server is transcoding to "H264 (High)" per the info overlay on the RasPlex.  This may be harmless error .. as the picture looks really good.  But ... I would prefer the video to be direct play.

Is it transcoding the video because it has to transcode the audio (the audio track is TrueHD)?

Is it transcoding the video because it has to transcode the audio (the audio track is TrueHD)?

Yep, while DTS-MA has a DTS 5.1 core that can be played by systems that don't support MA, TrueHD is a completely different spec to AC3/DD5.1, the Pi can't play TrueHD so PMS will try to transcode.  If you transcode the TrueHD down to AC3 5.1 it should play fine.

Working much more responsive now, I love it. I hope the framerates will get better in the next release, the choppy transitions and animation needs to get better imo

Hi,

I've updated from .5.1 to .6, and when I try to stream the sound from my Macbook via Airplay, I get an error on my RPi saying something like (I'm at work right now, I don't remember the exact message) "unable to play media"

When I stream from iTunes using airplay icon (cd screenshot), it works perfectly...

It worked perfectly on .5.1

Does anyone encountered the same issue ?

Just one question concerning hyperion. How is it possible to update it if needed? Will we have to wait until the next releases upgrades of Rasplex to have hyperion updated or is it still possible to do it manually? Thanks

Build in hyperion wasn't stable for me. Also I couldn't find where rasplex installed hyperion. (maybe I overlooked it). So I disabled the build in hyperion and installed it manually.

I seem to be getting regular lagging whilst transitioning between TV Shows/Movies/Music from the main menu.  Occassionally it'll sit on a black screen with "Please wait..." in the bottom right hand corner.  I've also experienced lagging whilst trying to move the selection from one series to another from within the TV section, and from within Movies, it's almost like it's frozen, then suddenly about 5-6 seconds later (sometimes longer) it'll catch up.  It's happened several times now.

It's happening on both my RPi2's.  One was a clean install, the other auto-updated.  No overclock.  Both hardwired with powerline adapters. PMS v0.9.11.16.

Second thing.  My brother updated his RPi2 last night, which he uses to remotely stream stuff from my PMS, update went smoothly.  He confirmed FF/RR do not work, even if you pause a TV show/Movie for 30-60 seconds.  He said once you unpause then FF, even though the FF speed says x32 and the time bar is moving along faster, the video picture in the background just moves at normal play speed.  When pressing play to resume from FF, the video jumps back to the very beginning.

I also had cec issues today. My setup is rpi2 -> Denon AVR-X1100W -> Sony KDL 48W605B. My pi2 runs 24/7, never turn it off. The CEC settings on the pi are set up accordingly, so that turning off the tv does not turn off the little one. I had kwiboos release running since it first came out (must be months now), and never had to reboot rasplex to get cec working, in fact i never had to reboot it at all. Happened today. It also crashes very often. On the next boot there is a message that an error report has been submitted. I had my unit overclocked at the beginning, but reverted to the original settings but still have these problems. I'll try a new installation on a brand new micro-SD card over the weekend. Anything i can do to narrow it down further?
