rasplex + broadcom wifi dongle

Hi guys,

I recently bought a pi and a broadcom dongle.

http://blog.broadcom.com/raspberry-pi/want-wi-fi-for-your-raspberry-pi-broadcom-adapter-brings-connectivity-with-less-power/

I used the installer to put the disk image onto an sd card no probs.

Rasplex booted up, i was configuring it with a usb keyboard via the hub on the wifi dongle... (so I know the usb port, and the hub on the dongle is fine)  all good until I get to network setup.

Nothing.  Nada.  Ziltch.  No sign it had recognised the wifi dongle at all.

I researched a bit and found this.

Is this most likely to be the problem, and if so is it likely to be fixed anytime soon, or should I just buy another dongle?

Cheers,

Dave

You did go into System Settings and enable WiFi and connect to your router after the first boot, didn't you?

Thanks for the help Rockstar

in system settings the 'connections' tab is empty of options and the network tab has NTP Servers, VPNs, and Advanced Network Settings as options

No where do I see an 'enable wifi' option...

Am I missing it somewhere?

In the 'Network' section of 'System Settings' you should have 'Wired Networks' and 'Wireless Networks' if your wifi dongle has been recognised, if 'Wireless Networks' is missing then the driver is missing, what chipset does the wifi dongle use? Best wifi dongle for use with Pi (and Rasplex) is the Edimax EW-7811UN.

Hello,

I have recently bought that same adapter, have you had any luck getting it to work?

I had the exact same issue, switched on and no sign of it!

I have worked on installing the drivers manually over SSH according to what is on the open elec forum that Newbie has given the link for above, and using http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php?title=Ssh_commandsfor how to use SSH (bear in mind that the default login when you ssh is not the same as on this wiki instead it is username: root  password: rasplex. I then placed the drivers in both the places suggested on the open elec forum (I had to create the firmware folder first then change the https to http in the links provided by Irusak). I have since restarted Rasplex 3 times and still no luck.....I am searching for how enable firmware loading on rasplex because of the comment from Irusak "Actually I'm not sure if firmware loading is enabled" Ned do you have any idea how to do that?

I do think that considering one of it's selling points is that it is built for raspberry pi, I think that plex should be working to support it. Hopefully we are on to something and we have a solution :)

Thank you
