In your place I would try using the side menu command "Control Precaching" to make a full precache of my library (this takes several minutes for a large library), after which I would use the side menu command "Restart" (or "Shutdown"), so as to ensure a new start of RasPlex with full precache data. (Though some corruption might still remain, requiring other methods.)
Please try that and report on whether it made any difference.
Precaching still didn't let me go into the library and the logs didn't change when I unsuccessfully tried to open the library. i reformatted another SD card and voila, it worked again. not sure what happened, but it is working now. thanks for your help!
i spoke too soon. so after i put in the new SD card and saw that i could go into my "tv shows" library, i set my usual settings (time zone and transcoding). i then went back into tv shows (which worked) and set the "unwatched" filter. 20 seconds of "please wait" and then there was nothing that it showed as unwatched. i left the filter, went back to the home screen, and then it wouldnt load back into the tv library just like before. i did a soft reset, left all the default settings, went into "tv shows" (which worked), set the "unwatched" filter, didnt show any shows, exited back to the home screen, then couldnt get back into tv. another soft reset later and now i am just not using the filter. that filter does work on my music and movies libraries on the pi, and oddly enough, on my computer i can no longer go into the tv library. i think this may be a server side issue. i recently updated to version 0.9.9.14, but that was about a week ago and i am pretty sure this worked after i did that. i was going to try downgrade the server version, but it says there is already a version installed (obviously). is there a way to downgrade and retain settings?
I have problems with the audio. The audio stutters ones a minute or so. I have read others having the same problem with this release, and thought it would get resolved over time with an update. It has now been several months and theres no update, so I guess there's a solution to this other than waiting for a release?
First I have DolbyDigital disabled and the audio is sent as PCM 2.0 through the HDMI cable. Then as you can see I enable Dolby Digital and when I play the same video the audio stutters. After a while it seems to catch up and it stabilizes. However, every minute or so there's a small glitch in the audio throughout the video.
Haven't found anything interesting in the log file.
I bought a new Raspberry Pi model b today, and a new power supply. Just to exclude some hardware error.
I had no problems with Dolby Digital before the 0.4.0-RC4 release.

this may be linked to the refresh rate of your video file and how plex manages the playback. are you playing a file with 23.976 fps (a.k.a. 24p) ?
if so, plex could be having some challenges with adapting this fps to the refresh rates of your monitor. are you using "adjust display refresh rate to match video" or "sync playback to display" ?
or it could be something else entirely ! :-p

Yes its a 24p video. I have the same issue with "adjust display refresh rate to match video" both on and off. Haven't fiddled with the "sync playback to display" setting though...
FYI: I just installed RaspBMC with XBMC 13.2 on another SD card, and also installed PlexBMC. The video file plays just fine with Dolby Digital passed through to the receiver. So it's something wrong in Plex/RasPlex...
It could also be a new feature of 'Gotham' XBMC that makes it work better with that PlexBMC setup.
RasPlex is similar to official PHT in being based on 'Frodo' XBMC, which lacks some of the 'Gotham' improvements.
It would be interesting to know what results you'd get with a similar PlexBMC setup installed on some OpenELEC 3.x.x version, since that uses an XBMC version very close to that of RasPlex, and also a very similar OS kernel.

I just managed to test the same video file on OpenELEC Raspberry Pi ARM 3.2.4 and I don't experience the same major problem. After 4 minutes there was a minor glitch and one more after about 5 minutes, but then it was fine until 10 minutes when i stopped the video. So a similar problem exists for sure, but does not behave the exact same.
With this XBMC/OpenELEC installation I also tried Multi-Channel PCM (5.1) and it worked very good! No problems at all. So a temporary solution would be to find a setting that send 5.1 PCM instead of passing through DolbyDigital.
No way to do this, please see response to your other post. May be available in future releases.

Must be a pain in the ass for a lot of people. For me it's 50% of my collection that I can't watch in RasPLEX properly.

In answer:
1. 'So basically everyone has this problem.' - Yes, all Rasplex users have this issue.
2. 'It's beyond my understanding.....' - Your understanding is a little limited, the developers are not full time, they have other jobs and families to be part of, and do this in their own time, for free!
3. 'Must be a pain in the ass for a lot of people.' - What is a pain in the ass is people like you who get something for free and complain when it's not updated every week - see point 2 above.
4. 'For me it's 50% of my collection that I can't watch in RasPlex properly.' - You can watch them properly - you just don't get full surround sound. There are a number of ways to fix this, remux the audio to AC3 (but that would mean having to give up some of your leisure time to undertake this - much like the developers), use a different Plex client (but then many of them have this issue), watch the BR or DVD, etc.
If you are not happy then no one is forcing you to use Rasplex.
Yes, and that’s why I am not using RasPLEX! :) I want to, but I can’t because of these problems.
Right now the best solution is Plex app on iOS with AirPlay to an AppleTV. But that doesn’t allow for refresh rate switching and DTS audio. But iOS is what I’m using...
I have been following the RasPLEX project since day one. It’s the most promising and capable living room client for the Plex Media Server. And my frustration that RasPLEX hasn’t become what I hoped for might have contributed to my choice of words in the last post.
Every other month or so during the last 1,5 years have I tried out the latest RasPLEX release to see if it had reached a state that was good enough for me to make it my primary client in the living room. But every time I have experienced problems which made me fall back to iOS/AirPlay/ATV. I have contributed with bug reports and participated in forum discussions.
When I read about the 0.4.0-rc4 release I really got my hopes up. When you read something like "This is by far the most stable and performant version of RasPlex to date! We expect it will be our last 'release candidate' for 0.4.0.” my expectations will of course be high.
I immediately tried it out and found the problem about the audio. I read in the forum that other people was having the same issue, thought that it was under control and was gonna be fixed.
Now 2,5 months later and when no update had been released I decided to go to the bottom of the problem myself. As I wrote previously I even bought a new raspberry pi and a new ac to rule out hardware error. So when I found out that it’s a bug in the rc4 release which hasn’t gotten any update in 2,5 months, I’m not gonna say I'm sorry for complaining and expressing my disappointment.

It is not a bug, it is a feature that's yet to be provided, it can only be a bug if the code to support this codec had ever been included and didn't work - there's no code there.
