Ratings missing on Plex Media Player, but ok on Plex for Mac

Hi all,

I’ve been using Plex for years and love it. But recently I noticed the ratings (both Movies and TV) are completely missing on my Plex Media Player (used on Mac Mini).

On my Plex for Mac (used on MacBook Air) they are showing (IMDB & TMDB ratings) perfectly.

Plex Media Server version 1.25.2.5319

Plex Media Player version 4.29.2 on Mac OS 10.11.6. (no ratings)
Plex for Mac version 1.39.1.2763-300bb607 on Mac OS 11.6.2 (ratings working fine).

Thanks for your help!

Cheers,
Shanty

What app are you referring when you say „Plex Media Player v4.29.2“?

  • The actual Plex Media Player (Version 2.58) is about to be replaced by Plex HTPC.
  • Plex HTPC has been around for some time now but it’s still on release 1.x
  • version 4.29 seems to be referring to some slightly older version of Plex Web

Also… I take it you’re talking about community/critic ratings, not the content rating or stars you might have assigned to movies yourself?

I am indeed referring to community/critic ratings.

Re Plex HTPC I understand the minimum requirement is macOS 10.13, my Mac Mini is from 2009, this model max out at macOS 10.11.6, so this won’t work.

Re the version of my Plex Media Player, I apparently do have version 2.58 (latest), however Plex states it’s 4.29.2, see att printscreen. Strange this…

It’s highly unlikely Plex is going to do further changes to PMP… IIRC it hasn’t been updated since almost 1.5 years w/ Plex HTPC being the official successor in all but name (=official announcement)

As for the version 4.29 showing inside the app… I had forgotten that PMP can switch between TV any desktop mode where the desktop mode UI is based on Plex Web (and apparently a relatively old version)

Thanks Tom for your swift replies.
