Rebooted Qnap Server and now Plex won't start

Server Version#: 1.23.5
Player Version#:

Hi guys,

On the 17th I shut down my Qnap tvs-872xt server to add more hard drives. Once I finished expanding the raid array (20+ hours later) I’m finding that my plex is not working.

Attempting to open it gets me “ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED”.

Plex is shown as running in the Qnap App Center but I don’t think it is actually running. If I SSH to the install directory of Plex and run plex.sh start then it attempts to start but nothing seems to happen.

Plex isn’t shown as running in the resource center (I can’t find the process).

Attempting to browse here gives me the same connection refused error: http://192.168.1.48:32400/web/index.html

I’ve also tried changing the delay in plex.sh from 5 seconds to 25 seconds but that didn’t help either.

Anything I can do besides a complete reinstall? I really don’t want to lose my metadata/library information.

A bit of extra information from my testing…

My current version of plex: 1.23.5 experiences this.

Uninstalling and reinstalling this version no difference.

Uninstalling and installing version 1.23.1 from the qnap app center fixes this and I can access the web url.

Restoring my backup Plex Media Server data and attempting to view the web url results in same failure (I’m guessing over version differences).

So the issue seems to lie with 1.23.5…

My qNap firmware is 4.5.4.1723.

I’ve no idea what to do now and feel like I’ve lost all my plex metadata and preferences.

Thanks for reporting that.

You also have the option of downloading and using 1.23.4 (public release) which is known to be more stable.

Heya. Where can I download 1.23.4? The only version I can download here for qnap is 1.23.5: Media Server Downloads | Plex Media Server for Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD and More

Additionally I checked the downloads folder of my PC and found the following:

PlexMediaServer-1.23.3.4707-ebb5fe9f3-x86_64
PlexMediaServer-1.23.4.4805-186bae04e-x86_64

I tried both of these and they both exhibited the same issue as the OP. The only fix at the moment is going back to 1.23.1. Even if I do that and upgrade back to either one, I go back to the same issue where plex won’t start.

So something definitely seems to be up as these versions have all worked perfectly for me up until the other day.

Any ideas?

May I have some logs ?

Use the PlexData share to help gather the failure

Public version is 1.23.4

Ah I needed to turn off plex pass!
Aha! I’m onto something. Your link about PlexData share sparked it. The other day I manually added a Shared Folder through qnap shared folders to .qpkg/Plex Media Server so I could back up the contents with Hybrid Backup Sync.

So with that, I uninstalled Plex, removed the share (+ click delete contents).
Rebooted NAS
Installed 1.23.5

And it works now. I’m guess I did the share completely wrong and it messed the whole thing up. As a test I installed 1.23.5, verified it working, re-created my old share and found it not to work. So it seems to be the case.

Now to find out how to restore my metadata from B2 without the share…
