When I am looking at a library with the Recommended tab selected - I always have “Continue Watching” and “Recently Released”. Sometimes I have “Recently Added”, and sometimes I don’t. Also - it seems to come and go. Today on library “Shows” (for example) I do not have Recently Added. But tomorrow (changing nothing) it will be back. Also - it might be missing on 1 library but there on another library. This has been going on for a long time, through many server and player versions. I just finally decided to go find out what is going on.
I’m sure there is a logical answer, but for the life of me, I can’t see it.
Does “Recently added” reliably appear if you disable “Recently released”
under
Settings - Server - Manage - Libraries
?
Well… I have to say “yes” for now.
I went through all of my libraries and disabled “recently released”. I personally have no use for that anyway. I actually don’t even know what that is as opposed to “recently added”. But anyway - “recently added” is now showing in all of my libraries. The reason I am saying “yes for now” is because “recently added” has come and gone with no explanation. But I am going to be confident that this has solved my problem. Time will tell.
Thank you!!
“added” means the date when the movie was added to your own plex server.
“released” means the date when this movie was generally publicly available for the first time (i.e. usually when it comes into movie theaters)

I am still having the problem in “some” libraries. I have all libraries configured the same (Recently released is off). The library that caused me to start this thread started showing “Recently Added” when I turned off “Recently Released”. But I have 2 other libraries that are configured exactly the same. One of them shows “Continue Watching” and “Start Watching”. The other shows those 2 plus “Rediscover”.
Any other ideas?
“Rediscover” is only showing if there are partially watched shows in the library.
Okay, but that’s not the point. How do I get “Recently Added” to show? The box is checked but the category does not show up.
How large is your primary database file?
Have you ever checked it for damage, or did you repair it?
The .bat file from here is the easiest to do a complete and thorough rebuild of the DB file. (Make sure you have plenty of free space on the storage volume which has the Plex data folder on it): PlexDBRepair/Windows at master · ChuckPa/PlexDBRepair · GitHub
I will give it a try.
How do I find the Plex Data Folder? And how much space is “plenty of free space”?
Click on the orange text.
“Plenty” means free space of at least 2 times of what the various .db files in the plex data folder take up.
I ran the clean up and it seemed to complete normally - no errors. But I still do not have “Recently Added” in 2 of my libraries. Any other ideas?
What kind of libraries are these?
i.e. which scanner and agent hs been selected in their properties?
When was the last item added into each these libraries?
All of the libraries (the ones that have “Recently Added” and the ones that don’t) are TV show libraries. And all but 1 have had new recordings within the past day. The other one is within the past week.
One other thing that I said at the start, but bears repeating, the “Recently Added” seems to come and go with no apparent reason. Right now it is not displayed in 2 of the libraries, but is displayed in 1 library where it wasn’t when I first opened this thread.
Yes, which agent is used for these which don’t work, please?
All of them (the ones that do work as well as the ones that don’t work today) are using the “Plex Series” agent
I figured it out:
Edit Library, Advanced, Visibility - I had it set to “Exclude from home screen”. When I changed that to “Include in home screen…” - the “Recently Added” was visible in the library. Sounds like maybe a “bug” (unintended feature). One should not have anything to do with the other.
How do I go about reporting that? Or can you do that for me?
Thank you for all of your help BTW!!! I really needed to rebuild my database. I turned that off a long time ago because it was causing problems so I’m sure it was very much over due.
They absolutely are related.
Oh, that’s odd.
Why is a library displayed (or not displayed) on the “Home” screen related to a category displayed (or not displayed) on an individual library screen?
It is even more confusing because when you manage an individual library recommendation there is a column for “Library” and a second column for “Home”. That indicates to me that they are controlled separately.
It’s also odd that “some” of the categories are displayed in the individual library screen when it is not displayed on the Home screen, but some are not.
I guess it’s “one of those things you just have to know” that often comes with custom software.
The “Recommended” tab of a library is considered this library’s home, kinda.
Do you mean by default? Some of them are not suited for most users on the global home page, so they are not enabled by default.
Or are there certain hubs which don’t work at all if you enable them for the global home page?
