Recently added randomly decides that old movies are new

I just wanted to chime in here and say that disabling the “Empty trash automatically after every scan” option under Settings -> Library has seemed to fix the issue for me. My Movies and TV Shows are now only showing the latest content that I have added to my Library.

While this may not be the permanent or correct fix, just thought I’d add that it has been working for me for several weeks now.

It worked for me for awhile but it’s doing it again.

Same, I disabled it and it slowed the issue but did not end it. BUT I’m currently having a lot of other extreme issues (PMS has basically stopped working on my shield) that have made this issue seem quaint. :] Thanks for the input!

Otherwise we could wait forever

Both have been notified, and from my understanding they are each blaming the other.

I’m curious about those of you who tried disabling the automatic emptying of the trash option who are still seeing the old movies / shows showing up as new again issue, Did you do anything to the movie / show that is showing up as new again such as rename the file(s) or directory it lives in or did you manually empty the trash yourself before it showed up as new again?

Manually emptying the trash will still cause this issue to happen if the the media that shows up as new wasn’t detected for some reason (nas issue, network issue, disconnected external drive, etc…) after the last scan and then you emptied the trash before the next scan finds it again.

This is why I would like Plex to add a “Trash Can” option you can click on to see what’s in the trash or at least some sort of notification when you go to manually empty the trash that tells you how many items are getting ready to be purged we can detect when something that shouldn’t get purged is in there or not.

The disabling of the auto empty trash option just prevents any items that temporarily go missing from getting auto purged after a scan but if manually purge the trash after a scan that has some of your items missing then you’re going to see them show up as new again.

As for who is to blame (Plex or Nvidia), I personally feel that there are so many variables that could trigger this issue that are not necessarily the fault Plex or Nvidia or something within their control. It’s hard for them to make sure you plugged in that external USB hard drive that has your media on it. Or maybe your NAS was rebooted in the middle of a scan and you didn’t know and emptied the trash.

Optionally, if you end up having something old show up as new again and it really annoys you, you can manually fix it by changing the “added_at” entry for that media item in Plex’s “metadata_items” database table using a sqlite3 editor.

I’d like to do this but I can’t find com.plexapp.plugins.library.db in the internal storage. I can only see the database backups. Do you know where the database is located in the Shield?

@CallClear

Oh right… I forgot I was in the Shield TV forum. You won’t be able to manually fix the entries on the Shield TV since the DB file lives in protected storage. It would be doable though if your Shield TV is rooted though. Sorry about that.

I do find it funny that Plex lets you backup your DB on the Shield TV but doesn’t give you the ability to restore it. If they did, you could just modify a backup file and then have Plex restore it.

I wonder if there is an API call that can be used to reset the “added_at” time stamp. I might have to poke around the docs and see if that’s an option.

Thanks slowmoe. I figured that might be the case. It is frustrating using the Shield as a PMS. So close to greatness, but falls short because of silly things like this…

How do you know they’re blaming each other?

An interesting solution, thank you!

As other people more “in the know” have posted on these forums (people who have been able to speak to Plex and/or Nvidia directly), when either party can be convinced to speak on the matter, they blame the other. I dont have sources handy but they have been posted in these forums already

Still, we haven’t received official confirmation from Plex that they are aware of the issue. I don’t know who’s fault it is, but at least acknowledge it!

I assume that Nvidia Shield 2017 comes with the newest update? Has anyone checked whether the issue persists there as well? I can do it myself, as soon as I receive the update on my old Nvidia Shield.

On 5.0.2 running on a Shield Pro, the issue doesn’t seem solved…it doesn’t pick up my missing movies though the files are definitely there…

Same for me!

It’s still not fixed… Can’t believe it…

Still investigating, but i guess i have to delete the whole library and wait another week for it to re-index to be sure that issue still exists for series

The same …

lets push this a bit on nvidias forum.
i will post in this thread above now once a day until this is either acknowledged or fixed…

Little update for everyone,
