I am planning on using live tv on my plex server, which is running on a standalone headless linux machine. I live in austria, which means that HDhomerun is not available here. The programs I want to receive are encrypted with irdeto using CI-modules.
In the past (prior to plex) I have successfully used a tbs 6928 pci-e tuner. But that thing blew up. And it seems to be getting harder and harder to buy such PCIe tv cards (aliexpress used to have a few, but they’re now all basically “sold out”).
But CI (and irdeto) capable set top box receivers with LAN are easily available. I am now looking for some recommendations on such hardware that works well with plex and CI/irdeto on linux. Any ideas?
Have a look at Xteve software solution. Should work fine with Plex and most SAT receivers. I’m not aware of hardware solution here in Europe directly supported by PLex.
Does that also hold for solutions like xTeVe? The encrypting should be done in the receiver, and the stream then just passed on in an IPTV form, or am I mistaken?
Decryption is handled by the SAT receiver, xTeVe acts as an M3U Proxy for Plex DVR with some added functions to ease maintenance of the .m3u and XMLTV files.
