Recording at a specific time not working

First of all, I am the OP. Second, the time is displayed… go to the advanced setting.

Third… as I mentioned above, the problem with the EPG is that the older episodes which air on Saturday air at 20:30 and 22:00 are marked “NEW” whereas the actual new episode airing at 23:30 is not.

This is causing an issue when scheduling the recording of new shows. The 23:30 episode won’t be captured if you select record only “NEW”.

So, as far as I can tell from checking the official KNBC4 schedule with what Plex is reporting the airing times are correct - what is not correct is how it is reporting NEW vs Repeats. If the archival shows are considered “NEW” for some reason… ok, but at a minimum the actual new episode airing at 23:30 should be marked new.

Here is what happens on my system when I do a search on SNL. As you can see, only the old shows are shown. The one that is actually NEW doesn’t show up because the EPG is reporting it as OLD.

Here we go again. On my system the upcoming 11/17 SNL (supposed to star Steve Carell) at 11:30 is not even in my guide. It’s not new or old for me. There is no evidence of an 11:30PM show. The 10:00PM rerun is apparent and marked (incorrectly, arrgh) as new…

How about a manual recording option? Please? Then I won’t complain about SNL new or old or missing or whatever any more!

I think the issue is coming from the EPG provider and which cable provider or OTA … I have verizon fios and the guide seems correct … SNL will record at the correct time

Thanks @plexuser1427! It’s super terrific to see someone has a correct listing. But for those of us with at least 3 bugs preventing us from recording the show, your screen shots don’t make our problems go away.

  1. When our guides mark 2 SNLs as new Plex only records 1 airing (the wrong one)
  2. The Plex “Limit to Airing Time” drop down offers air times that do not exist
  3. GraceNote/NBC mark a 10:00pm (eastern) repeat as new

If Plex fixed either bug 1) or 2) then I don’t care about problem 3. Fixing bugs 1) and 2) make Plex DVR a better and more useful product. I expect variations on bug 3) to come and go with GraceNote lots and lots of times in the future on many different programs

And FWIW, my “Limit to Airing Time” selector still says 10:29 PM right now. This is not a valid SNL air time on eastern standard time.

That doesn’t appear to be the “Guide”, but rather your recording schedule. There are multiple issues going on here I believe… one is the EPG and what it is reporting to Plex… the second is what Plex is doing with the information. The cable provider or OTA is only significant in how Gracenote is storing information for that particular provider.

Please enter “Saturday Night Live” in your search bar as follows and post a screenshot…

Then select under Guide Shows “Saturday Night Live”… this is what it returned for me:

Then take an actual screenshot of your guide for Saturday Nov 17th, primetime as shown:

As you can see from the guide view it shows all three episodes are recording - however due to the override I did in the advanced settings, only the 23:30 showing is actually scheduled to record. What actually happens when the time comes is questionable.

I have the same thing as you do except that I do not have 3 episodes for that night only 2. One from 10 to 11 then the news and the other that starts at 11:29… and my recording is created so that it is limited to this channel and to the 11:29 show… The recording UI is showing that it is only going to record the 11:29 show and it has been doing it for a while now without issues… I used to have a problem before where If I would not specify the time it would only record the re-run episode and not the new episode … Also it is strange that the EPG shows the re-run as a new episode …

here you can see better that I only have 2 episodes for that night not 3 …

Yes, there seems to be multiple issues here… one is the EPG reporting bad information to Plex on whether or not an episode is new or not. The second is Plex not recording an episode marked as new if there is more than one new episode being reported by the EPG on the same day. The third as reported @DrSmith is that the “advanced settings pulldown” isn’t correctly identifying the times that are available to record.

Agree and I just checked and for some reason my system only shows 11:29 as the only possible recording time… it does not shows the 10:00 option at all … I only get Any and 11:29. I don’t really want to try deleting it and re-adding the recording because it might break again …

Also here is a screenshot from my Verizon Fios app with Verizon TV guide and it looks like Verizon is showing re-runs as new as well. So it might be a widespread issue with SNL …

So it might be a widespread issue with SNL

It is more subtle than just a “guide issue”. The 10:00PM show is an abridged rerun. It is not the original 90 minute show. So GraceNote does not mark it as an official re-run with an official OldSeason#OldEpisode# because it is not an exact rerun of an old show.

But neither is it a truly new episode with season#episdode#. GraceNote just leaves it floating as SNL -/- date -/- host. This is the part where Plex is messing up. Plex thinks it is THE new episode for the date and thus does not record the 11:30 show, which it erroneously thinks is a redundant airing of the same new episode.

But all of our user comments and pictures are becoming pointless. We need a Plex employee to step up, admit there are bugs, and commit to fixing them. We’ve posted on this issue for 10 months with nothing from Plex except for new features.

I had this failure again last night (11/17) and started a new thread about it with logs here:

How do I get more log storage? My logs (Plex Media Server.5.log) only go back 4 hours and I was not awake…

My recording last night was successful. The problem in my case (as previously mentioned) was:

  1. The EPG is not labeling shows “NEW” correctly. The actual “NEW” airing of SNL won’t record if you select “New Airings Only” - because the EPG hasn’t labeled the show correctly.
  2. What worked was selecting “New and Repeat Airings” and then going into Advanced settings and using “Limit to airing time”, then use the pulldown to select the correct airing time you want.

Some people have reported that time times listed in the “Limit to airing time” are either missing or incorrect. If that is the case, the recording will fail because it doesn’t have the correct recording time.

In any event, the EPG should definitely be reporting the first-run episode as “NEW”. That absolutely needs to be fixed. It’s wrong and confusing.

I’d be interested in what the logs say in regards to the “Limit to airing time” information for those who are reporting the pulldown selection is incorrect.
