I cannot figure out how to get PLEX to record Saturday Night Live. I’ve fiddled with the settings every way I can think of, but every week it claims to have recorded the new episode, but instead has the compressed rerun that airs an hour before the new episode.
I’ve read a few threads on this, but I can’t find the answer.
Just to throw this out there: I discovered by accident that Last Man Standing wasn’t recording for me for the last couple of weeks. I came to discover that the local Fox station went to another channel, and I had to rescan my OTA channels to get that station back.
Anyway: I discovered this by looking at the guide and seeing that LMS wasn’t even showing up. Oh, the channel name changed…hmmmmm…then a Google search found a local news article from several weeks ago about the main Fox station moving.
If that’s not relevant to you, the only thing I know of is to look at the guide itself and see if the desired SNL show is even scheduled to record. What you want is HD only, specific channel, and new (not rerun). Does that setup not make the new SNL show up?
In the advanced recording setup you can also choose to “limit to airing time”. That menu will show you what it knows is in the guide. Does that fix the problem?
(of course, I would say that my DVR refusing to record SNL makes it a smart DVR…)

The channel is right, and it shows as scheduled to record every week. Unfortunately the rerun is also marked as new in the guide, which is because it’s re-edited, I hear.
I tried to limit to a specific airing time, but that ends up being a droplist, and the only option is 11:59, which is crazy, since neither of the episodes air at that time. The rerun is at 10:00 and the new episode is at 11:29.

If you go to the guide at 11:30pm Saturday, does it show SNL? Yes or no.
If yes, does it have the red dots that indicate it’s scheduled to record? Yes or no.

Both of these were true last night, too, and it still did not record for some reason.
Who is your cable provider? I’m wondering if they have activated the “broadcast flag” and are prohibiting recording.
He uses HD Homerun Connect, so he’s OTA.
At this point, someone will have to look at his log files. That’s above my pay grade. But the quick and free next step is to delete the recording task, validate that the guide shows SNL not set to record, and recreate the recording task and validate it again with the guide.
I guess the next step would be to delete the DVR and re-create it, forcing a whole new guide installation and update. That would suck if he had a bunch of recordings he had to rebuild.
I saw that he listed his guide provider as “XMLTV?” I would stick with the Plex built in guide provider and see what happens.
I am using the built-in guide provider, that was a line from the template that I didn’t delete.
I don’t have a lot of recordings, so rebuilding the DVR wouldn’t be that bad, but I just did that a few weeks ago when PLEX updated the guide provider. I was going that would make this issue go away, since it was happening before that, too.
I downloaded the logs, should I post them all here, or are there specific ones from the zip ii should extract?

I don’t know why it worked this week, but it did. I’m hoping it’s working, but I’ll believe it when it does a couple times in a row.
@tendiamonds are you still able to record SNL as you had hoped? Mine conts. to record the old one playing at the earlier time and not sure what to do. Do you have your recordings limited to a certain time?
If anyone else has some insight, I’d appreciate that as well. I have HDHR-4K w/ OTA. I’ve deleted and setup my DVR a few times now. I even tried to program it so both SNLs would be recorded. But it still just recorded the old one.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
I haven’t changed anything, but nothing has recorded since my last post. It’s infuriating. When it works, it’s great. I end up watching on Peacock and YouTube, both of which stink.
If I look at the DVR schedule, it shows both episodes each week as “NEW”, however, it only seems to record the first one (the repeat). In the library the repeat airing is given the metadata of the actual “NEW” episode, but if I do a “get info” the filename reflects the information of the repeat episode.

I am having the same problem. But when I try to change the Limit To Airing Time, the only options are Any and 03:29 AM. I think the problem started for me after the Plex switch to the new program schedule. It is weird, I removed the scheduling, and re-added it, with no help. Then just changed it again and now the DVR Schedule correctly shows that it will record both showings for tonight. I will see if it actually records both. I only care about the 2nd, but can easily delete the first if it records it.
It did not work. Even though it showed in the DVR Schedule at that time, it did not record the 2nd showing of SNL. I later looked at the DVR Schedule from my phone and it did not show it. And when it was after 11:30 when it should have been recording I tried tell it to record, there was only the option to Cancel Recording.
Thank you @tonydarst for the extra input. I continue to have the same problem as well. It is quite frustrating paying for a service that won’t work properly.
Is there a way to use the “@” to bring in one of the Plex support staff? It’d be nice to make sure they’re aware of this and find out what other things we can do (if any) to further troubleshoot this. It seems, with all the thousands of submissions in the forum, it’d be pretty hard for them to keep up w/ all the goings on.
For the record: I changed nothing in my settings, and this week I got recordings of both the rerun and the new episode.
I don’t know when it was released, but I installed an update yesterday. Perhaps it was resolved?
I still only got the first (re-run) episode recorded, but with the metadata of the second (new) episode again.
The re-run airs at 10pm
the new episode airs at 11:29pm
if I go into the advanced options for the recording, it offers me to restrict to a airing time to “ANY or 11:59pm” which doesn’t make any sense.
Since it is Saturday again, I looked at my Live TV &DVR in the GUIDE tab. It shows both the 10pm and the 11:29 to be recorded for today but not for next Saturday. This is how it usually shows even though the first one only gets recorded. On the DVR SCHEDULE tab the Agenda View for today it shows both the 10pm and the 11:29pm show.

And for next week the View shows only the 10 showing.
