Recording at a specific time not working

When there are multiple occurrences of the same show (specifically, SNL) on the same day, using the advanced option to specify a specific recording time doesn’t work. Nothing is recorded. Many people have been reporting this situation with SNL for over a year, but crickets from Plex and the Ninjas. This problem is easily reproducible. Why hasn’t it been fixed or at a minimum acknowledged?

Example:

Choosing that option causes neither of the airing to be recorded.

Is the recording showing up on the recording schedule before hand? if you are around when it is supposed to start recording can you grab the logs so we can hopefully see why it is not starting

Both show up on the schedule beforehand.
I’ll link to my post from a few weeks ago where I screen-capped everything. Since I mostly notice this on SNL, we’ll have to wait for next weekend to get updated logs.

I currently see the exact same bogus “Limit To Airing Time” value that sean.a shows for the single show coming up this Saturday (11/10). Is there any way to diagnose this now? In advance. It is very reproducible. Would log files help for this? I mean how does 10:29 even get into the selector, when the recording and only airing is scheduled for 11:29?

yes very much so. Please from the time it says it should start recording.

Sorry, that’s not actually the part of the bug I was referring to. What I mean is that today, right now, Weds morning, it offers me the chance to limit airing time to 10:29 when 10:29 is not even a valid airing time. So there is some sort of bug in the “Limit To Airing Time” selector. We don’t have to wait until scheduled recording time (11:30PM Saturday). This bug is happening all the time right now.

I can turn on logging and use the web GUI to show the wrong selector time and then send logs. But does any GUI activity actually get into the logs?

ok thanks, I missed that. I also just wanted to ask if the web app is the only player app showing the wrong time or is it any app you can record from? Like if you have Android TV if you initiate from there is it also wrong.

I also see the bogus “Limit To Airing Time” value on the iPad

I also used to have the same issue and I got it to work after limiting the channel to NBC HD and limiting the time to 11:29

This is what I have for mine and it has been working for a while now.

Um yeah, thanks plexuser1427. I’ve been limiting the channel to NBC for some time, but the bug persists. We are hoping that BigWheel or some other Plex employee can diagnose the actual bug, not mask it by tweaking record options.

@DrSmith I think the issue you are experiencing is different. For me it would show on the correct day but the recording would never happen. After I changed the recording parameters shown on my screenshot everything started working and recording. Also sometimes when it would record it would record the wrong airing time and it would be a re-run instead of a new airing episode.

Yeah it seems like a couple different things going on but I made a report about the incorrect time and failure recording anything when multiple airings.

If anyone has logs from it failing to record SNL at the time it should start please let me know. I gathered up all the forum posts I could find about SNL issues and added them to report. (I’m sure other shows do it but since that show seems to always cause issues for folks hopefully our devs will be able to reproduce easily)

SNL is scheduled to record tomorrow for me. As I mentioned earlier, I used the advanced setting to limit recording to the 23:30 airing. Notice, that EPL shows that it isn’t a NEW recording, even though it is. That is part of the issue.

Additionally, you can also see where The Late Show with Stephen Colbert isn’t showing the title of the show… but that’s another issue.

If part of this is being caused by a gracenote problem, they need to fix their stuff. This has been going on for over a year.

So it looks like this week is going to be a bad example since there doesn’t seem to be a 10PM episode even listed in the guide.

So all I see is the 11:29PM episode.

This is NOT from the Airing Time selector. This still shows the wrong time.

To me, this is the bug that needs to be fixed. If this was fixed, it wouldn’t matter what Gracenote did, it would just always record the episode at 11:29PM.

The EPG information is important… if you select record NEW episodes and the guide reports that an episode isn’t new, it isn’t going to record. That is a HUGE problem. The reason my system currently reports it is going to record the 23:29 episode is because I used record ALL episodes and then I went into advanced settings and told it to only record the episode at 23:29. Even that hasn’t worked up to this point, it always reports that it will record it, but when it comes time to actually do it, it doesn’t work.

Regarding the older SNL episode, that is reporting as NEW and is broadcast on NBC 4 in Los Angeles at 20:29 - that is part of the problem. Gracenote is reporting that it is a NEW episode, and it’s not. It’s a repeat from a previous season.

I also have it displayed as new … I have verizon fios… not sure if it is a problem with the EPG and your cable provider

It’s gracenote… I don’t use cable… This is ota.

The EPG is important and the fact hat “Record All” doesn’t actually do that is a problem. But it isn’t the problem of this OP’s thread.
This problem is about the fact that the specific Airing Time dialog box doesn’t actually display the time(s) that the show airs. This has nothing to do with EPG issues. There is simply a bug in Plex. My guess is it is a time zone bug (since it has the “minutes” right but not the “hours”).
If Plex fixed this bug, we would at least be able to stop it from recording the earlier re-run and then it would (presumably) record the later (real new) airing. This is my work around now, where (if I’m available) I delete the 10PM airing after it is done. Then Plex correctly records the 11:30PM airing because it doesn’t see the earlier one in the Library.

@plexuser1427: This week was a bad example because there was no 10PM re-run.
