Still having problems with multiple shows per night.... SNL now

Server Version#: 1.13.7.5369

I thought this had been fixed, but apparently not (which is kinda frustrating).
SNL airs a re-run at 10PM (which is marked “new” because the edited it to make it fit in an hour), and then airs the new episode at 11:30.

Plex seems to know that the 10PM airing is not a real episode from this season

and Plex seems to know that the 11:30 airing is a new episode from this season

But once the first one is recorded, for some reasons it decides that the 10PM airing is the new episode from this season and doesn’t record the 11:30 showing. It even grabs all the meta-data for it.

…despite the fact that it clearly isn’t the right episode by the file name.

How in the world does this matching work? Wrong time, wrong length, wrong file name. This is ridiculous.

The obvious work around for this specific show for this would be to just tell Plex not to record the 10PM showing (which isn’t a new episode anyway).
But no, Plex doesn’t give me an option to choose between 10PM and 11:30PM shows. It only gives me a 10:30PM option – which isn’t either of these. Where is it getting this time from? I’m scared to even try to select it.

What in the world is going on here? This should be simple. Isn’t there like a unique identifier for each show episode? What about file name?
Why can’t I just select the right time?

Wow, nicely documented! And you can see from this thread that it is an old problem that Plex seems to be ignoring.

If we could just have a manual recording option, then EPG issues like this could be managed by users until Plex decides to fix it…

Lots of things could fix this. Manual recording. Select-a-time recording. Not putting the random episode named with just a date into the Season 44 folder.
For the record, selecting the 10:30PM showing in the advanced options correctly(?!) doesn’t record either the 10PM or 11:30PM airing. Now if it could just actually detect the 2 airings and let me pick one…

Step 1 is acknowledging the problem, which Plex has yet to do, AFAIK. Just a little note to let us know they are aware of the problem and considering solutions would be nice…

GraceNote marking the re-run as not new “fixed” it. But there is clearly a bug on the only record this airing time selector.

Can you explain this “fix?” Plex missed recording Saturday night live for me last week and shows that it’s going to miss it again this week.

I got it to show the future recording for the correct time by selecting the second of the offered specific record times in the advanced record settings. It was for 3:29am, haha. The other option was for 2:00am. This smells alot like UTC time for the the wrong (2:00am) and right (3:29am) episodes since those are 9:00pm and 10:29pm respectively and I’m in the UTC-6:00 timezone.

But damn if I haven’t had this problem multiple times and been super confused by it. It’s always recording the episodes from the 1970’s and sometimes missing the correct episode.

This week’s (S44 E3 on Oct 13, 2018) new SNL episode recorded properly for me as scheduled without the issue I had experienced the previous week (the re-run shown just beforehand was recorded instead). I’m in the Eastern Daylight timezone if it matters.

The earlier recording is no longer marked “New” so it didn’t record.

This is so weird. I only saw 1 recording time in the “Advanced” settings despite there obviously being 2 airings per day – and that time didn’t correspond to either actual airing time.

bump
This is still, STILL a problem. It was fixed for a couple weeks, now broken again.

No response from Plex. C’mon guys, I know you’re busy with podcasts and whatnot, but this seems to be a straightforward fix. If you could just fix why the “Choose an airing time” dialog doesn’t actually contain the airing times for the show, I think this would get resolved faster than dealing with Gracenote (which is probably where the actual problem is).

At least a response would be nice…

How about giving us a manual recording option? Just channel+time+duration would allow us to work around the issue until PlexDVR vs. GraceNote vs. SNL has a winner.

That would obviously be a great new feature. I’m saying, just correcting the bug in a couple lines of code so that the feature they already built (choosing the right airing time) actually has the airing times of the show should be even less work.

Is this not a problem with the EPG?

NO. NBC chooses to mark 2 SNL episodes on Saturday as NEW. This is wacky, but tolerable. The PLEX BUGs are (1) that Plex does NOT record both episodes regardless of whether we say “record all” or “record new”. And (2) there is a bug where the “limit to airing time” selector has the WRONG actual times listed. And (3) there is a PLEX BUG where selecting the 2nd airing time to record directly from the grid-guide is ignored.

The fact that Plex actually has 3 bugs and those of us commenting on them each have a different one probably makes these complaints seem disjointed to casual thread readers.

I had a similar problem. Only the first show was recorded but Plex had the description for the second show.

This has probably been happening to me for a month or so, but initially I just figured the 2nd recording failed for some reason.

I just updated my settings for SNL to only record the 11:30ET timeslot; hopefully it’ll be a decent workaround (if it works)… I don’t watch the 10ET timeslot anyway

How do we know these bugs are even seen and logged by Plex dev team? Do they put a tag on the thread? I saw a lot of forum used as bug tracker before but not like this one which seems to just be loose ignore wish list without any feedback.

I’m experiencing the same. Worked fine until a few months ago. Not sure if that’s when NBC started tagging it differently or if that’s when the other bugs showed up.

@sergiou87 - I know this may not be your area, but you were so helpful in the threads about the Beta player. Any chance you could weigh in or bring some attention from someone who can let us know what’s going on? Thanks!

This has been so frustrating. I tried changing different options to see if they work, without any success. It does not help that we have to wait a week to see if it works with the setting I change :frowning:
