With an HD HomeRun dual tuner, I’ve run into a problem regarding show priority and repeat airings of shows…
Here is the scenario…
One OTA station offers two episodes of Stargate SG1 at 8pm and 9pm. The same two Stargate SG1 episodes that aired at 8pm and 9pm that same day are then rebroadcast at 10pm and 11pm…so the station has an “early” 8pm showing of 2 episodes, and then a “later” 10pm showing of the same two episodes.
If a conflict is detected with some other show that day…any other show…lets say only from 8pm-10pm, the DVR will refuse to record ALL showings of SG1 occurring that same day…refusing to record the 10pm or 11pm shows, where there is no conflict.
I’ve partially gotten around this by setting to record SG1 only starting with the 10pm show. However, if that is the only setting, it refuses to acknowledge the 11pm airing
To get around THAT, I direct Plex to record starting at 10pm, but to continue recording 60 minutes past the first airing…effectively capturing both shows.
Sigh.
This is kind of ridiculous. Instead, Plex should record any airing of SG1 it does not see a conflict for. But that is not the behavior. As soon as it sees a conflict, any repeat airings in the same day are ignored.
Today due to storms, my over the air recording of Stargate at 8pm and 9pm were bad…very truncated shows, just a few minutes worth rather than the full hour. The DVR function has an issue with recordings that go awry.
I deleted the messed up OTA recordings before they repeat at 10pm and 11pm…
One of the shows is “re recording”…which is should, as the partial episode that recorded was deleted, and the settings say record new and rerun shows. (See screen shot)
But I can’t get the 11pm one to record. Even though the system no longer has that episode on it’s drive, it thinks it still recorded it successfully (it didn’t).
The DVR should re-record the 11pm show…but it says it will not, with no way to override. That is bad…
For any reruns, it would be great if the system would also compare “length” of OTA recordings, and keep the longer ones if there are issues recording over the air.
It still may not see a “Rerun” of the episode aired in the exact same day…so if there is a same day “Encore” airing, but Plex thinks it did record it…even if you delete the episode…it may not record it again.
However, if that episode airs on a future, different day, and you delete it’s match prior to that, then the future day episode will record.
It seems it only has trouble with re-airings held on a single day…
