I am aware of the option Refresh library metadata periodically in scheduled tasks that refreshes metadata on files that is missing the metadata within the past 30 days or something which is great.
The issue is relating to both older files in a library that are missing metadata as well as when metadata has been changed at the source (plex agent, tmdb, thetvdb, etc).
I have found that older file’s metadata is not updated within Plex libraries and also old unmatched files are not checked for matches or are metadata refreshed unless done manually.
My suggestion is to have a regular metadata refresh integrated into the scheduled task mentioned above, e,g.

Refresh metadata on files at 10 days old, 40 days old, 90 days old and then every 3-6 months afterwards. This will make sure that the metadata is correct and up to date as when content is released there is regularly changes going on with the metadata.

Refresh missing metadata every X days
This second suggestion is not only for unmatched files but also files that only have partial metadata, e.g artwork but no synopsis or actor list.
The end result will be every unmatched file is now matched if possible regardless of added age and every file will have up to date metadata - all automatically without the users input.
