[RELEASE] OpenPHT 1.6.0

Ok another one hopefully with a quick answer also  This was happening on previous version of OpenPHT also. After leaving OpenPHT running but unused overnight, turning the TV back on in the morning I see OpenPHT has exited at some point overnight. No error messages on screen. I’ll probably need to provide some logs I guess - can you advise which logs, how/where ?

Subtitles does not work! :frowning: All my anime… They are ASS subtitles. Please fix  They don’t show at all when i play the series…

Tried all 3 skins available.

Tried clean install. Delete all preferences. no subtitles.

Helpful if you could state which version OSX, Windows, Embedded.

Will there be a 1.6.1 when the fix is out? Think it will be a Long time for it to be released? Sorry for stressing. Just really like the new version. Especially the black Plex skin

Yes,
Not long,
Glad you like it.

Regards

As a workaround until the fix is out (won’t be long), you can turn on “force transcode” in preferences (I tried on my Windows 10 machine, and the ASS subtitles will show using that). Not ideal, but it’s a way to force the ASS subtitles to show while waiting for the update.

Hi,

Firstly I just want to say this is a great project. I absolutely hate what Plex has done with the interface in PMP and much prefer PHT, but was having problems with x265/HEVC videos, then found OpenPHT. I was running OpenPHT successfully version 1.5.2 or something, then upgraded to 1.6.0 this morning. I’m on a Mac.

Unfortunately my manually-installed Medistream skin (listed as version 1.2) that I was using previously no longer seems to work - at all. All the menu lists are completely blank. Is anyone successfully using Medistream skin with 1.6.0? Any ideas on what I can do?

I see OpenPHP now has the ability to download skins through the app, is there any chance to have an “official” Mediastream skin download through the app that is compatible?

Thanks.

Isn’t mediastream the default skin? If so just reinstall it.

Mediastream is a very old skin from the PMC days (although it did work – with features missing – on PHT).

Some user would need to update it to work with OpenPHT and maintain it. Would not be a small undertaking unfortunately.

On a positive note, congratulations! Just figured out that OpenPHT 1.6.1, built on Ubuntu, has bitperfect music playback on HDMI.

I have CD rips with HDCD encoding, which are perfectly recognized by my receiver.

Also did tests with DTS packed in WAV/FLAC (Pink Floyd albums) - DTS works perfectly here as well.

Hires audio, 96khz, 192khz, flawless.

Cherry on the top is gapless playback. Amazing!

Yes true it’s an old skin, but I like it. I find the new-style of scrolling through a zillion cover art images to be both annoying and slow. I just want the old-style text-based lists on the left with options for “recently added, recently aired, etc” and the cover art and summary preview on the right. Is there a more modern skin that would be similar to Mediastream in this way?

Seems strange that compatibility would completely break on 1.6 when it was working perfectly fine on 1.52.

@occamsrazor:

I didn’t mean it’s old, and therefore bad because old is bad. Rather, that it is old, unsupported and has been abandoned (unfortunately) for quite some time. Skins need updating for each new release of OpenPHT (or in the case of Mediastream, PMC then PHT then OpenPHT). Many updates require small changes or small things will break, some updates require bigger changes to the skins than others. Just as true for Kodi as for OpenPHT. In particular the change from Frodo to Gotham in Kodi required some major changes to skins to continue working. If you run an abandoned skin, unfortunately, you can expect more and more things to break each release until eventually it doesn’t even work.

So I’m not ripping on old skins, just saying that if you want a stable and reliable OpenPHT experience you are best off sticking with a supported skin (which sadly there aren’t many – I would love to see more).

Like you, I’ve always been a fan of the PMC Mediastream skin from way back in the day. I have found that the Plex Black edition skin brings back a lot of elements of the mediastream skin that I loved. Maybe you outta give that a shot?

Does the backup function not work anymore ? I only can select the storage location and only have the option the cancel.

Thanks for the tip. I did check out the Black edition skin and it’s true it has some elements of Medistream, but still not enough for me. Visually it is nice and slick, but key for me is when I click on “TV Shows” for example I immediately want to see “Recently Aired” “Recently Added” “Recently Viewed” etc as these are a super-quick way to get to your new stuff. Same goes for Movies.

No worries, I didn’t read your helpful comments as any criticism and all that you say is true. There does seem to be a real lack of variety of skins, weird given the size of Plex userbase. I just find it difficult to understand how anyone with a reasonably large library can find any of the newer “official” Plex interfaces an improvement in useability over the old Style Medistream/PMC-PHT style.

As someone who paid for PlexPass I feel it’s a bit ridiculous to be forced to cling to an old outdated, unsupported version (PHT) just to keep the same interface I’m used to. But given the likelihood of Mediastream being updated seems slim and the way PMP is going, it looks like I’ll probably just end up ditching OpenPHT, going back to PHT, and avoiding any x265/HEVC vids.

Do you think that the Medistream incompatibility with OpenPHT 1.6 might just be something small and simple?

The changes required would be major, simpler just to request new features for any of the skins which are actively being developed - Plex Black Edition, Aeon Nox and Night. They have their own sections in https://forums.plex.tv/categories/third-party-skins

Ohh… Is that what you want? I didn’t realize from the description you wrote earlier, but from that pic I understand. Easy peasy, you can make that change yourself to any skin in under one minute. From this conversation, I can assume that you know how to install skins manually, so you know where the skins folder is. Inside the skin you want to change, then into the folder containing the skin xml files (720p for default or Black Edition, 1080i for Nox). In there you will find a file called “DialogFilters.xml” Delete it. You’re done.

That will force the old style filters to be used.
