Remote access availability is inconsistent

Server Version#: Ubuntu 1.24.5.5173
Player Version#: Various mobile devices

I have remote access set up but have experienced a couple of things that don’t make sense.

  • The remote access green light in Settings will usually appear to be on when I navigate there, but it switches to off after a few seconds.
  • When playing back a video remotely, I may see the relay warning. If I stop the video and restart it, I don’t get the relay warning. (Via Tautulli I can verify that I am directly connected when this happens.)

My home internet is Comcast business, servers are explicitly allowed, and I have run other kinds of servers on my connection. While it is always possible that the ISP is at fault I have no evidence that is currently the case.

My firewall is a FreeBSD box and I have manually forwarded port 32400 to the Linux Plex box. It is always possible that I have made an error but I have no other port forwarded services that are inconsistent like Plex.

In fact, when I had PMS on a Shield server, on the same LAN, I didn’t have this problem, remote access always showed green. When I switched to Linux I just changed the various IP address settings in PMS and my firewall.

Any ideas for how I might improve this situation? Maybe there’s an obscure Linux network setting I am overlooking?
