I’ve had some difficulty in getting remote access working for my Plex Server on a Synology NAS when my service provider uses a CGNAT.

I just wanted to share what worked for me and the problem (caused by my ignorance).

Because my ISP uses a CGNAT there was no easy way for me to directly connect to Plex Server on my NAS. Luckily my ISP also offers a DDNS service.

What Worked For Me

  • Setup the DDNS with my ISP with port number.
  • Setup port forwarding on my home router with external port per above and internal port to my NAS.
  • In Plex settings for this server, make sure the manual port setting is unchecked. This where I was going wrong, I incorrectly input my external port into this field.
  • In the Plex Server ‘network’ setting, input the full web address and port per the ISP DDNS setup in step one.
  • Wait a little for this to register with Plex.
  • Remote access should show as fully accessible.

Hope this helps save someone else some time.

Cheers
