Remote access comes and goes randomly

Remote access will sometimes be enabled then for no apparent reason become disabled. Most of the time it seems to be disabled. Since the only reason I use Plex is to stream music from my NAS to my phone when I’m away from home, this is a major issue for me.

Sometimes I can access my music via my phone when remote access is disables and sometimes not. Also occasionally my phone says that it can’t make a direct connection but will play anyway.Plex Media Server Logs_2020-05-20_15-43-37.zip (6.5 MB)

yes I’m keen on some sort of resolution to this. It’s happening to me constantly. I have to go into Settings/remote access and disable remote access and turn it back on again. which i can only do when I’m home when connected to the plex server. Something I have noticed is under the ‘disable remote access’ button the ‘private’ and ‘public’ IP address randomly say ‘unknown’. Not sure what that is

One in a while turning remote access off and back on will resolve the issue but rarely. Generally what happens is that when I turn it back on it shows remote access available for about 1 or 2 seconds then returns to no remote access.

Hi - I upgraded to Version 1.19.3.2764 on my QNAP NAS hoping it may help - but still getting this same issue - connects and then randomly disconnects. How do we get some assistance on this?

Same here…this has been going on for weeks. My router has not changed (or even lost power) in months. This HAS to be a Plex issue.

This happens for me as well, very interested to hear any solutions folks have. I’ve made sure I am using static IP and have a reserved IP.

Any news on this yet mine keeps disconnecting also been going on for afew weeks now

Same happened to me, i made the PC ip static on router and i forwarded the correct ports in my router to the server

now its always accessible even though in the server settings page it turns red and says not accessible.

Yeah i have to keep reloading the server for it to clear not sure why its doing it but its gettin annoying now.

Same, anyone trying to go remote access, PMS crashes/shuts down on me. It all started with the last update for me.

Yep, same issue here, I also get random server process exits along with the remote access being disabled. All started happening after the latest update

This is getting ridiculous! Still having the same problem. If I hit “retry” it comes up fine but unless I do that, my server is inaccessible outside of my network. Kind of defeats the purpose of having the damn thing!

I’ve been fighting this problem all day. I thought it was a Windows issue until I stumbled on this thread.
If I reboot my PC, PMS will say I have remote access, but my public and private IP addresses say unknown.
If I disable then enable remote access, I can’t get remote access back 99 percent of the time.
The rare times I get remote access back, it will just randomly stop working.
On a side note, I’ve been using Plex for many years and I never had to port forward. Might have to try that and see if it fixes anything, but I have to agree with the others that one of the recent updates screwed something up.

Update…port forwarding is working, for now. I’ll update again if it doesn’t keep working.

I tried this solution and it actually worked - I now show that it is available outside my network. I’d tried this before with no luck but that was with my old cable modem. So thanks for the help.
