Remote Access connects for about 15 seconds then disconnects

I’m having the same issue here on the last 2 releases in the past couple of weeks.
I have port forwarding all setup, and everything runs fine for a few seconds but then drops out again.
I have UPnP active and even if I manually set the port it runs for a few seconds and then starts dropping in and out. Have tried JUST port forwarding (UPnP disabled) and JUST UPnP (no port forwarding) and no luck there.
Mine is installed on an Asustor NAS system. I can remote into the NAS itself no worries, but not Plex, it just drops off and can only be accessed locally or if remotely it’s only via Relay. My router is a TP-Link Archer AX11000 and I have a static IP from my ISP, with my device also on a static IP internally.

I need to +1 this. I’ve had a rock-solid setup for years, and only within the past few days or so (at least that it was noticed) has there been any issues with connecting remotely.

I have even set a specific port for Plex to use, but the connection seems to switch on and off randomly. Other services/forwards I have set up work without any interruptions at all, so this does not appear to be an issue with the connection itself.

Just noticed Tautulli was showing WAN connections going through plex relay. Did some investigating and like everyone else, my connection goes green then 30 seconds to a minute later goes back to red. Just adding my name to the list…

UPDATE: Apparently, my Pfsense upgrade to 2.5.1 broke port forwarding. Anyone running Pfsense may want to look at this for fix. Some port forwarding broke after pfSense 2.5.1 upgrade - Lawrence Systems Forums

Just want to keep this alive and say ‘still happening.’ No, I’m not going to provide logs or talk about my setup. In general, it was working for years, and then it stopped working. Same as ALLLL of the others above. How about the Plex engineer tells ME what THEY see? I find it hard to believe with the scads and reams of data provided that the info still only flows one way (us telling you…) instead of you telling us. Please devote more resources and solve.

Well said @medavidson. Adding my name to the continued list of users who have had well running setups with no issues and no changes and no suddenly remote access has stopped. There needs to be more transparency, accountability and action from the devs.

I am also having the same issue. Connects for a few seconds, then fail (not available outside your network).
I have changed nothing on my end. I tried enabling upnp, disabling upnp, specifying public port and same thing.
Looks like this has been going on for way too long.

I just did a fresh install of Windows 10 on a formatted SSD. Installed PMS 1.23.1.4571 from scratch. Getting the same issue of Remote Access going green for a few second and then red. This is after years of it working fine and having never setup port fowards or anything else in the past.

+1 here. Also flickering remote access after upgarde

+1 here too. Same issue has been happening for some time now.

Hello I have the same problem my router has the ip from PMS marked as DMZ.

If I go to the PMS configuration remote acces only connects for about 15 seconds then disconnects. Any hint?

DMZ

Port Forwarding

Plex configuration only connects for seconds

Then disconnects

I can access my server through Relay but quality is bad and I bought Plex pass lifetime for almost nothing :frowning:

[Edit] I’ve resolved my problem. Turns out my internet provider switched to IPv6. Forcing to use IPv4 in internet connection in router settings resolved my issue.

After upgrading to newer version (PlexMediaServer 1.23.1.4602) problem still occurs.

All my problems gone with zero tier one https://www.zerotier.com/

My remote access works for about an hour then fails, do a retry connection and it fixes for another hour then fails again.

This issue seems to have presented itself in the past few months.

None of this has anything to do with port forwarding or anything like that. If everyone here disabled secure connections, they would be able to make a connection. It’s only when secure connections are required or preferred that this issue comes up. Which mean it has to be an issue with the security credentialing that is going on. Until they fix that issue, or figure out what it is, people will continue to have this issue. Can Plex “reset” the security certificates for each server? If so, I need that done, because I’m having the same issues as the above when turning on secure connections.

Hello, i have the same issue here. I activate the remote controle, it’s green for 15 seconds and then goes red. The only change I have made are a new router. I have tried to do what’s indicated on the troubleshooting article (fixed ip and manuel redirect port) but nothing worked.
I have tested the port on https://canyouseeme.org/ and its in Connection timed out, I don’t know why.

My logs are in this message if anyone can help me.

Same here. On Synology NAS. Tried everything on the help page…

I just found this in the logs when connecting.

having the exact same issue after updating! connects for a few seconds, then goes red and disconnects… here are my logs… PLEASEEEEE HELLPPPPP!

There is some serious flaws in how you setup the libraries and the folder paths. Lets fix that first as at the moment the logs are being clogged up due to the setup error

Can you in Plex Web - edit each library and click on Add Folders and see what folder path you have setup for the library

Do you have the root of the C:\ Drive as the folder path? Any change in files is triggering a scan

For example we are scanning this directory for
C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.Windows.AppResolverUX_cw5n1h2txyewy\microsoft.system.package.metadata

and look at this - when the log file is updated, that is triggering a scan

Jul 01, 2021 03:56:07.248 [17644] INFO - Library section 2 (TV Shows) will be updated because of a change in "C:\Users\bhedg\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Logs\Plex Media Server.log"

You need to put your media files in appropriate folders and specify the paths to these folders in the library setup

See
Category : Movie Files (Naming and Organizing) | Plex Support

Category : TV Show Files (Naming and Organizing) | Plex Support

etc

They are all within Category : Your Media | Plex Support

Is this still an issue ? I can see you have double NAT protection but that should not affect remote access.

Could you get logs from the current version you are running on
Also screenshots from the router configuration to show that you have a port forward setup for public port 32400 to forward to 32400 for 192.168.1.9, Also screenshot to show that 192.168.1.9 is in the DHCP Reservation list

Also check that the router does show it has an external public wan IP address that matches what the canyouseeme.org displays - it should be IP address starting with 176.169.xx.xx

Thanks
