My plex server which has worked in the past with remote access working with no issues.
Remote access now decides to connect for about 10-15 seconds and then it disconnects, i have a port forwarding rule on my router which allows any source IP to reach my public IP on port 32400 which is what both the public and private are set to (32400).
Has anyone got any suggestions to fix this issue, i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but still no luck. I have tried alternative ports but still no luck??
…same issue here…green for a few seconds, then back to red. Nothing has changed except updated versions of the server & players plus the latest Windows updates. Started having problems connecting remotely this afternoon. Please fix this ASAP!!!
…found this workaround: downloaded the first Plex Media Server version in January…remote works like a charm! Also noticed that all the media displays much faster with this older server version.
I’m on 1.18.7.2457 and windows 10, and have the exact same thing happening. It’s fine at home, but remote is horrible at times. Some family can still access when its red, others can’t.
Same issue for me. Remote users are being routed through the relay. Port forward in place, turning remote access off and then on again results in fully accessible message and can be accessed from CanYouSeeMe and seconds later turns to Not Available outside your network and not accessible from CanYouSeeMe. ISP is Xfinity.
Having the same issue. I just got a new router and messing around with VPN firmware, but with everything open it first shows green but switches back to red after a few seconds. Thought it was my new setup until I found this thread. May try getting the old version too
The only connections from outside that are getting through are via Plex Relay
I would like to see router screenshots to show that the port forward is still active and is going to tcp port 32400 for local IP 192.168.0.50
Are you going through a vpn ?
Logs show switching back and forth between two public IP Addresses - which is not normal unless you are switching ISPs temporarily or going through a vpn
(Public IPs 70.173.,xxx,xxx / 185.242.xxx.xxx)
What firewall is running ?
Is there an inbound port rule to allow
Local Port: 32400
Protocol: tcp
Remote Port: Any
Remote IP: Any
Program: Any
I do run Plex through a VPN at times. I have the IP reserved and the port forwarding set up in my router. My firewall is through Windows Defender. I changed the settings according to you and the guide, restarted everything, and still have the same problem.
Same issue here. I have Plex server on my QNAP NAS, and have been running remote access for at least the last 4 years, continuously. yesterday it disconnected. I didnt change anything - now it connects for about 20 secs, and then it goes red and says its nos reachable. Any ideas? so far what you have said in this thread dont works or applies to my setup!
please attach screenshots of router setup for dhcp reservation and port forward and also firewall port rule and fresh logs of the server of it failing
I cannot help with getting it to work with vpn. So please let us look into the issue when there is no vpn running and the public IP address that Plex Media Server is the Public IP address that your ISP is allocating to you
Same issue here, running on Synology NAS, Draytek 2862 Router, not missed a beat for 4-5 years, all of a sudden, no remote access. Tried everything, banging my head against the wall here…
Saying there is a problem does not help in finding out what it is.
One would need to see server logs, router setup screens, firewall rules screens to start an investigation
As an example of external factors that affect remote access, recently it was found that xfinity xFi Advanced Security stops remote access working because every external connection needs to be approved by the user and the approval only lasts 30 days - so that would not work with the requirement of having a remote access facility - especially since remote connectivity tests could be coming from a pool of different IP addresses that plex use for that purpose.
Also there have been many examples of ISPs upgrading their router firmware / settings remotely and silently losing port forward and dhcp reservation settings.
@sa2000 Agree. I am concerned that Comcast is losing port forward and DHCP reservations. Xfinity Xfi advanced security was already off for me. Had to implement a port trigger instead of a port forward since Comcast has somehow bungled up port forwards. Still can disable and enable remote access in Plex. Ping successfully from CanYouSeeMe for a few clicks, then this error shows in the log and remote access is gone. So sorry not sending all. Too much identifiable info in there. Not sure everyone with this problem is on Comcast… May look to replace Comcast gateway.
