Remote access continually disconnects

Server Version#: 1.24.3.5033
Player Version#:
DSM#: 7
Router: eero (v6.4.0-2092)
DNS: ISP Default

The PMS is consistently disconnects from Remote Access.

Troubleshooting steps so far:

  1. Restarted all networking equipment from modem to endpoint.

  2. Reserved IP on router for Synology NAS.

  3. Set up port forwarding for port 32400 on router for PMS. Mapped port for both internal and public IP.

  4. Manually set port 32400 in PMS.

  5. Clicked ‘Retry’

  6. Connection temporarily shows green but then disconnects shortly thereafter. (Shows red X between ‘Internet’ and ‘Public IP’.

  7. Restarted Synology NAS.

  8. Upon restart, ran PMS and Remote Access showed as connected (green). Remote Access then dropped.

  9. Confirmed settings in router one last time.

Of note:

  • No VPN running on the NAS at this time.
  • The above steps have been repeated in various combination through several iterations.

I’ve seen on another post where the indication within PMS is just… wrong.

Tested and confirmed outside the network that I do have remote access, despite the indicator prompting otherwise.

Going to leave this here for now in case someone else needs to stumble across the same issue.

You can verify if remote access is working via websites such as canyouseeme.org.
Go to the site from a system on the same network as your Plex server.
Use your remote access port instead of the default, 80.
It will tell you if it can see your Plex server.

You can use Uptime Robot to continuously monitor remote access. It is similar to canyouseeme.org, checking your remote access port every five minutes. It will send an e-mail if it cannot reach your server (only one, not one every five minutes). The free account is sufficient to monitor a Plex server.

You can monitor playback via Plex Dashboard → Now Playing. Connections listed as Remote are using remote access. Connections listed as Indirect are using Plex Relay.

Additional information is available in Troubleshooting Remote Access.

I am having the exact same issue as of last week. I turned off the relay but it still slows me down to 2mbps. Everyone across the board that I’m sharing with has been having issues with quality of streams since this has broken down.
