Remote access does not work even though its set up correct

Server Version#: 1.14.1.5488
I’m trying to access my plex outside my network. It doesn’t work. Here is a video of what happens when I try to establish the remote access. I added a video so you can see that I have it setup correctly. https://youtu.be/bSkDrsIvMnw

That video shows much less than what you might want it to show (video quality doesn’t help as well). Considering you only want to create a forward for 1 port that’s been an awful lot of entries…

To get some perspective on your issue…
Have you checked accessing your router’s public IP address and that port from the outside (you can use a service such as canyouseeme.org for that)?

I got it to work. I reset my router, turned off the firewall, and i also didnt have the external ip address set.

same here.

my remote access enables and turns green for a little while, but eventually goes to red and disabled again.

my router is set up correctly…this is definitely a bug with the new plex software

go easy with your judgement…
Questions:

  1. have you confirmed it actually doesn’t work? sometimes, the indicator in Plex Web is not accurate and your server might be available outside your home network despite it telling you otherwise
  2. if it’s not available… did it work for you before and has only recently stopped working or is this still your first attempt?
  3. have you confirmed UPnP is enabled/supported by your router OR did you setup a dedicated port forward in your router for Plex? (if so… which one is it?)
  4. if you have a port forward on your router… can you access it from a remote device (you could use canyouseeme.org to confirm if the port is accessible or not)
    • if you cannot access your home network (public ip / enabled port) – the issue is likely between “the internet” and your router (incl. your router)
    • if you can access the port but cannot get Plex remote access to work, the issue is likely between your router and Plex (incl. your home network and the computer/NAS running your Plex server)
  5. on top of answering those questions… how specifically did you configure Plex remote access?

Yes , it definitely doesn’t work.

It’s not so much a question of a port issue. It’s that remote access itself is disabling by itself. I enable it…it stays enabled for a few hours, then it’s stops working…and when i go into remote access settings, it is disabled. When i enable it again it works, and the the whole process starts again.

It’s just a nuisance, and it’s an issue I had never experienced until a Plex update a couple
Months ago.

It seems like this is an issue that a lot of people are having …I wish Plex would acknowledge the problem at least.

Also, I do have UPnP enabled, but I also have specific the port forwarded.

I can see thAt the port is open on canyouseeme.org.

And I have remote access configured so
It uses the specific port I have assigned to it all the time. I don’t let Plex pick the port.

the question is… is it just the indicator in the remote access settings or have you tried playing something from outside your network?
it’s a known fact that the indicator alone can be off (e.g. if the web-app doesn’t get the remote access status fast enough).
