What’s up everybody? Hope all is well. I’m new to plex. I just purchased a PS4 and couldn’t play any media from my WD My Cloud so Plex was the next best thing. So, recently I had the hardest time enabling remote access for my account which I finally succeeded in doing yesterday. Even with remote access being enabled (after HOURS of research and “port forwarding”) I still cannot access my Plex server on my PS4 without my computer being on. Am I missing something?
Plex Media Server must be running on a what ever machine its installed on in order to access any media added to its library.
Right, I understand that much. The server is initially installed on my PC, but I thought remote access would allow me to access the server from the PS4. Thanks for answering btw.
It should be able to if you’re PC is on and PMS is running

So even with remote access enabled I still have to have my PC on to access the server from my PS4? My wd cloud server can be accessed when my computer is off. I thought it would be the same with the plex server. I’ve done a port forward but I think I used a wrong IP address in one of the steps.
The WD Cloud server is a physical device, the Plex server is an application running on your computer. If the Computer is off then the Plex server is unavailable.
Remote access allows you to access your Plex server from someone else’s house providing that your computer is switched on.
Just to be extremely clear (since it looks like this thread is getting confusing fast), are you running the Plex Server on the WD Cloud Server? If I understand correctly, the WD Cloud Server is a separate box with some drives in it, and it appears it can run Plex Server as well. But installing Plex Server on the PC does not install it on the WD Cloud Server, that’s a separate thing.

My apologies for the confusion. The plex server is installed on my PC. I was just comparing the two. I see my PC has to be powered on to use plex. That seems like a big waste of energy so I will probably reinstall on my wd cloud drive. Thanks everyone, again, my apologies for any confusion caused on my part.
