Remote Access keeps disconnecting

I’ve searched for previous posts on this subject, and found a few threads dating as far back at 2015, but none of them seem to have solved the problem.

My remote access disconnects several times per day, and I have to reconnect it. I have no problem reconnecting, but I’m wondering if there is something I can do in setup to prevent this from continuously happening. Or is this normal?

If your remote access is usually working (not just the remote access status indicator showing you a green light) and drops out later – does your PMS host have an IP reservation in your router?

I’m having same issues since password got hack and my server keeps disconnecting randomly, I have read that article, I have a static IP, DMZ , also I have tested a fully new installation and I’m still having the same error, I also have tested using Jellyfin and it’s working without any issues. @tom80H

DMZ is a bad idea unless you exactly know what you’re doing.

  2. a new install might rule out an issue with your Plex Media Server install… not your PMS configuration or anything between “the internet” and your server.

I also have tested using Jellyfin

I have no idea about their remote access stack – so that test doesn’t give us much of a lead.

Beyond that… I hope you didn’t just read the troubleshooting guide but also checked the different steps / potential roadblocks. If you want anybody to assist in figuring out what’s wrong, you might want to share that outcome / your findings.

I’m using DMZ because I manage the connection with the firewall of my server and with Docker, I have been using this setup for 4 years without any issues, I didn’t have any problems until 1-2 month and I didn’t have to change anything in my configuration or hardware.

1. The error

PMS keeps disconnection from Internet, it shows it’s reachable from internet, but after the first connection from outside the PMS says now it’s not reachable from internet.
I have been checking if the port it’s opens, and it’s randomly open and close.

2. New installation

I tried a new installation to discard any issues with my old installation because maybe i had something corrupted, but seems like everything was fine.

3. Test with Jellyfin

I tested a new application to see if the problem was from Plex or from outside of Plex, and seems like the problem only appear with Plex.

4. Anything more?

That sounds fishy.
Did you check the port forward configuration in your router, issues with public IP assignment by the ISP?

I have more ports opens and the one that is using PMS it’s the only one that do that, in total I have like 20 ports opens and all the shows always open except the PMS port, I also have tried using a different port, and it’s giving me the same issue.

And yes I have checked the port forward configuration in my router and everything seems fine, and about the public IP assignment I think it’s fine because other services works without any issues.
