Remote Access no longer works after password reset

Server Version#: 1.42.2.10122
Player Version#: 4.149.0

Completed the password reset. Went into this whole big thing reclaiming my server. Now it says “Not available outside your network” for Remote Access.

If I hit retry on “Manually Specify Public Port” (defaulted to 32400), Remote Access works for a few minutes and then stops again.

Everything was fine until the password reset.

I have the Eero mesh router system for context.

I finally fixed this by logging in locally instead of through app.plex.tv. In other words using 127.0.0.1:32400/

Did that and it went back to no access after a few seconds.

I did nothing other than wait 20-30 minutes and it resolved itself - assume authentication is under pressure at the moment with everyone changing passwords etc.

I haven’t been that lucky unfortunately. It’s been over an hour and nothing has changed.

I had to sign out of the client apps. I am still waiting on one iOS to connect but all others did eventually.

I just sent a note out via Plex to users about it. Everyone managed to get back in.

Forgive me for asking this and I feel dumb doing so, but to confirm, you logged out of everything and it worked again? I’m on the browser app and I have logged in/out and the server says that remote connection is not available. I don’t get it lol

how you do that? i tried several times, and did not work yet

Having this exact issue after the required password change. Remote access works after clicking “Retry” and then if you change tabs and come back, it is off. Any help will be appreciated as this is wrecking our evening TV time.

There was an update outstanding. I originally disregarded this because my server updates automatically overnight. However, out of desperation with this issue, I applied the update. It worked; remote access is working again. What a pain in the ass and a waste of time.

i have the same issue with Windows version 1.42.1.10060

Same problem here. I have server version 1.42.1.10060, and is up to date.

Use this method to reclaim a Windows-based Plex server after the password reset:

Remote access will not work until you do this.

I received the email from Plex about the data breach from hello@mail.plex.tv. I didn’t trust the email links thinking maybe it’s a phishing email so I went straight to Plex.tv to reset my password. I checked log out of all my devices when resetting the password. First, only the local server box could connect to my Plex media. However, none of my other media devices would connect saying it’s offline this includes my smart phone and Amazon fire TV’s and is still not connecting. Remote access was saying not working. After some time it remote access is saying it is working now but media devices still cannot connect to it stating my plex media server is offline. What gives? Plex is fudged simply from a password reset? All my devices are on the LAN yet they can’t connect to it.

Same here, did password reset today. Everything worked fine until then but after reset password I lost remote access and can’t play movies or TV series from remote. However I can logon to the server both locally AND remote! I am in another part of the country now this evening and can access my plex server from a remote PC, I can enter settings and go to remote access to check status and it says: “Not available outside your network. Your server is signed in to Plex, but is not reachable from outside your network“. When I click he retry button after the manually specified port number it shows that there is remote access again, but it does NOT last for long.

However I can still view my libraries (movies and TV series) and select f.ex and TV series episode and click play…. but then I get an error message: Playback error. An unknown error occured.

I do also have 1.42.1.10060, and my server claims it is up to date.

This worked for me.

Why do I need to reclaim server? Under settings > Server “name” > settings > General it says: Server claimed by
”My e-mail here below”

I can access the server, also from remote (enter settings, view libraries etc) but I can’t play videos/movies and the Plex settings remote acces often shows red “Not available outside your network” and a message “The server “Server Larsnes” does not allow secure connections“ sometimes pops up. Quite often remote acces turns green again when I click retry.

Also running latest Plex server and remote access keeps failing after this week’s “incident”.

Wait… you say to use the link in your post because “it avoids editing the registry directly”, but then beneath that line you say to “Stop Plex server make the changes to the registry, either by editing it directly or use the reg file from the above link sign in to your plex account by going to plex.tv”…

Which is it?!? This is so maddeningly frustrating… it makes my blood boil. All was fine until the effin’ password change. I’m never doing that again.

It’s simply a choice you have. Both methods achieve the same result. One of them provides a way for people who are hesitant to edit the registry directly.
