I understand that this is a common topic but mine is slightly different. I’ve been a plex user for more than 2 years. I understand the concept of port forward etc.
Previously I ran a linux PMS. Media Files are stored on my Synology Nas. I’ve port forwarded everything and it works fine for a couple of months. Then I updated my pms server to the latest one. After which, the remote access became a little buggy. Some times it work, some times it didn’t. I troubleshoot for a little, then it became workable.
Recently, there was a power trip at my place. After the trip, no matter what I do, remote access didn’t work. So I decided to migrate my PMS to a windows machine, since i’m more familiar with windows. To my surprise, I’m having the same problem.
It shows, “Not available outside your network” after i click retry, it shows available" for a few seconds, then turns back to not available.
I’ve forwarded the port. I’ve tried both manual and automatic. But all seems not to work.
I’ve been having pretty much the same issue for weeks now and it was driving me crazy. I also had a problem where one of my computers on my home network was not seeing the laptop I’m running Plex Server on. So I searched for a fix for that and came up with changing two services on the laptop which allowed me to find it on my home network once again and as a happy coincidence noticed that Plex is now accessible outside my network. Oh the services I changed were Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication. Both were set to manual and I changed them to Automatic. You might try that. It seemed to work for me.
