Remote access “Not available outside your network”

Hello, I created a new thread for this because I was asked to. I thought id try to ask for assistance here. Not trying to hijack. Also I really appreciate the help anyone who takes their time to help me. Expect a tip if you can resolve my issue.

I suffer from Remote access “Not available outside your network” issue.
Im a neophyte but I tried the help section notes already.
equipment :
linksys EA7300
Spectrum modem E31u2v1
Newer Mac Pro
so far :
-Created a DHCP reservation for my Mac Pro IP in router settings for static IP
-Manually specify public port 32400 on Plex settings
-Disabled “ipv4 & v6 firewall protection” in router settings
-Added port range forwarding for the 32400 in router settings
-UPnP disabled in router settings

  • CanYouSeeMe.org shows successful green when I check port
(my public IP starts with “172”)

When I make router changes the Remote Access in PLEX settings turns green for “successful” for about 20 seconds then goes back to red “not available”.

-Router currently set to DHCP. I tried once, to set this to bridge mode but got a spinning wheel for a while so I quit and had to reset the router.

The only setting that has allowed the Remote Access to function without failing after 20 seconds, in my router settings Connectivity>Advanced Routing - switching from NAT enabled to Dynamic Routing (RIP) enabled. This seems to totally remove my internet access(websites don’t work) but when I check the PLEX settings the Remote access stays green.

Im aware of double NAT issue but don’t know if I suffer from that or how to fix.
Also is my public IP starting with 172 suspect?

LMK if you can help. Thank you!

When you go to canyouseeme.org your ip shows as 172.something?

Does your wan IP fall in this range below?

172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255

No, its 172.117..

That is good!

So when you go to canyouseeme.org it shows 172.117.x.x?
On your Linksys when you go to (I am reading from the manual) the connectivity page under internet settings does it show your internet IP 172.117.x.x which matches what canyouseeme.org shows?

It does match on this page tho.

Try under Troubleshooting and Diagnostics.
Bottom right should show Internet address.

you can grey it out or just confirm it matches but like you have been doing don’t post your internet address on this forum or any other.

match

Perfect! That confirms you are not in a CG-NAT situation so that’s good.

Now is your PC that has the Plex Server plugged right into the same Linksys?

cool!
im on wi-fi right now. I can throw a cable down but I usually have to connect through wifi because of computer location.
Would you like e to connect via cable?

Lets work on it however its intended to operate long run i.e. on WiFi.

WiFi is not as stable as hardwired but if you plan to use it like that long term that is ok but especially with your EA7300 I would expect to have issues over WiFi with streaming both locally and with remote access.

On WiFi make sure your IP on your PC on WiFi running Plex matches the port forwarding setup in your router and if you can post your port forwarding configuration you dont need to grey out your IP on there as that is your private IP and safe to post.

The only thing you need to do on the router is port forward

WAN [any] =>[LAN 192.166.3.x or 172.117.x.[machine] port 32400

172 public? are you running a paid VPN?

This is how they were setup. Have not made any changes yet. looks like they match.

That all looks right!

and when you go to canyouseeme.org and specify port 32400 it shows Success correct?

Correct!

Can you take your mobile phone, turn off WiFi so its using your carriers data and browse to https://172.117.x.x:32400/web and see what you get from your phone?

might need http://172.117.x.x:32400/web depending on how you have your security setup in Plex.
