Remote access not reachable

i’m trying to give a friend access. They created an account. And I shared the libraries with them. But my remote access setting says Not available outside my network and under that it says I have remote access through a manual port and the box below is checked but I have no idea what that means.

I tried to read the troubleshooting guides but I need help understanding what to do.

I am assuming you are hosting Plex yourself? Sounds like you need to port forward it through your router. There are some good guides on how to do this.

I don’t think I have a router

we have xfinity internet but I asked my uncle he says we don’t have one

Just uncheck the Manual port… save it and then re-enable the remote access.

how do you save it? I uncheck but if I leave the page and come back, its checked again. I don’t see a place to click save.

Tell us about your network topoly:

PC --> Router/Wifi?
PC --> Wifi --> modem?

I disabled, unchecked. re-enabled. Box is still unchecked but says the same
I disabled firewall too

Im using a laptop and Wifi through xfinity modem

I think we have the same modem, so log in your device and check if UPnP is enabled at:
Advanced > Device Discovery

you mean the xfinity modem?

or do you mean plex settings?

well gotta put this on hold for the time being. My uncle wasn’t able to log into the place to adjust the settings. His normal password wouldn’t work. He has to go by the xfinity store tomorrow for something else and he’ll ask when he is there. thanks for the help, I’ll get that enabled and then see what happens

Ok. Usually these are the default credentials to log in the xfinity router:

  • Username: admin
  • Password: password (case sensitive)

Enable UPnP in the router and don’t use manually configured port in Plex. Good luck

nope didn’t work. We got into the settings and the modem setting was already checked.
What next?
when I disable remote access and then reenable it…for about 10 seconds it’ll say Fully accessible. then it goes back to not accessible outside my network.

I even disabled the UPnP and reenabled it. No go.
Fire wall disabled, VPN disabled.

What next?
