Remote access not working after resetting password

Same issue and attempted fix as rob71788.

Reset Plex account password, Problem: now remote access unavailable.

Steps: #1 Cleared browser history and logged out of Plex. #2 (Win 10 Pro) stopped PMS, removed registry settings (incidentally the PlexOnLineHome registry entry was missing) closed regedit. #3 started PMS, logged in, reclaimed server. Persistent red exclamation mark showing still no remote access…

And… my two cents… let’s all keep our head’s here. Been a paid customer for a long time and every other problem I had was user error. I say Plex is the premier streamer so let’s give the devs a break. They got word out quickly about the breach and have 15 million users hitting their servers at once!!! Kudos for telling us and keep us posted. Wishing the troubleshooters best of luck!!

Same here, and true I’d say Plex folk on lockdown to figure the hack out. I reset password and my server connects and confirms it’s online, but then on refresh it says it’s unreachable. I’ve disabled Remote Access for now until we know more.

Finally up and running 100% as far as I can tell. Windows 11 based PMS. Working locally and remote. Took a few tries and repeated attempts, but things are working.

Try clearing your browser’s cache. It’s possible the browser is still holding on to the old token to access your server so it will be invalid.

Thank you for the reply - and thanks for all the hard work Im certain you and your team are doing.

I have tried clearing cache, also tried from a computer at work that was never used with a totally vanilla Windows install. It also does not work for any of my plex users or from any fire devices after re-logging in using the code displayed on screen

At least on another web browser on a different computer. I Clicked my Server which was unavailable and this screen showed up. Notice the text I circled. It is a link and allowed me access from another computer on my same network.

This only works for web devices on the same network.

For me it did not work to connect via the external IP to it. However, after creating an SSH tunnel to it like that:

ssh -L 32400:127.0.0.1:32400 ubuntu@server

Then I was able to access the WebInterface via

http://127.0.0.1:32400/web

It then offered me the option to connect the server to my account.

Update: now have some users streaming but spoke with one and he confirms that streaming from apps does work, but streaming on the app.plex.tv site does not work. He has his own plex account. I am experiencing this as well, plex app for iOS is working but web app does not. Again, cleared cache, even downloaded Firefox (which I’ve never used) on both my phone and on pc and won’t work.

PMS on Windows Server 2019

Edit edit: iOS app not working again. Based on the inconsistency I’m thinking it must be something up on the Plex end. Not upset - a little more relieved really

Yeah I tried that, if I disable Remote Access and save and then enable it again, it’ll show connected and 5 mins later I refresh it will say not available outside of network.

What’s even more bizarre it’s not available on my local network either on another computer, which used to work but not now…

Anyway I’ve disabled all remote access for the time being until this all settles down.

@rob71788 Your account indicates your server isn’t using a secured connection. This would explain why remote access does not work. Can you restart PMS and wait 3 minutes to see if remote access kicks in? If not, send me the server log.

I’ve tried with 3 different browsers and 2 separate streaming devices no remote access. I can connect locally and Remote Access says “Fully accessible outside your network”. but when I connect remotely none of my libraries are connected. If I click a library it says “app.plex.tv is unable to connect to “plex” securely”

@lukejr Reatsrt PMS, wait 3 minutes, send me your server log.

Attached are the logs. Not sure if this means much but the server does say remote access should be fully available from outside my network. Secured connection is preferred in network settings.

@rob71788 Your logs show PMS has not obtained a proper certificate from plex.tv. This may be due to the high traffic we are seeing. Please try restarting PMS one more time.

Logs sent via DM, thanks for reaching out.

@anon18523487 here are my logs, also restarted and opened in incognito mode:

Thanks for checking into it! Restarted, DOES appear to be working right now. Figured it was something to do with Plex’s backend getting absolutely bombarded with password requests and re-claims. Stoked! If anything changes I’ll touch back

I reset my password again, claimed the server, removed the server, added it back. Still no love

@lukejr and @ivanyv1 Your logs also show the cert not being retrieved. Please disable remote access for a little while (10-30 minutes), then try restarting PMS and enabling remote access again.

It seem like my creds keep timing out even locally connected. After I log in and navigate to a library it I sit there without doing anything for a few minutes then click another library it says not authorized, you do not have access to this server, then if I click around and refresh the libraries show again.

Remote still does not work at all.
