Remote access not working + had to downgrade to watch anything

Hello! I have a multi-part problem. Late last year, other users of my server noted they couldn’t access the server remotely. I tried setting up port forwarding in the router, turned on split tunneling for the vpn, but nothing worked. It worked fine for me, so they stopped using it.

Fast forward to this year, I kept getting error s1001 while playing occasional files locally. This got worse and worse to the point where it seemed like I couldn’t play anything at all without getting that error. An online fix suggested uninstalling/clearing registry/deleting temp files and re-installing. That didn’t work. I also don’t have anything in the movie credits box so that fix doesn’t work either!

I ended up installing an old version of PMS (that’s why I’m many updates behind!) and I can finally watch content locally again.

I decided to see if this older version would fix my remote issues, but with firewall exceptions, port forwarding on the router and no VPN running, it still doesn’t work properly. I turned remote access off for about 45 mins earlier and was able to connect remotely via my mobile (not on wifi) for a few minutes, but that’s failed again now.

I’m happy to stay on this old version of plex, also happy to upgrade if I can actually watch content!

Can anyone help me fix my remote access issue? I’d love to be able to share the libraries again.

I’m not the most tech savvy but definitely capable of googling-in-the-blanks and following instructions.

Once you know that IP address, on a PC in your home: Open a browser window. Type http://server.local.ip.address:32400/web into the address bar
(e.g “http://192.168.1.5:32400/web”)

The browser will connect to the Server and load Plex Web
