Remote Access Not Working

Hi All!

I have a seemingly simple problem that I normally can fix myself, but for some reason, my fixes aren’t working. Very puzzling.

I have 3 Western Digital (WD) My Home Cloud devices (acting as Plex Media Servers) on my home network (FiOS).

Plex runs perfectly when I’m home and in network. But for some odd reason, when I attempt to run it away from home, Remote Access isn’t working consistently. Meaning, Remotely accessing the media on those servers works one day, then the servers go unavailable the next day. Very frustrating.

So here’s what I already tried…

  1. Set the IP Addresses of each WD device to “Static” on my FiOS Router.
  2. Gave each WD device its own external port number on the Plex Media Server Remote Access screen.

Pride myself on being a fairly decent tech savvy kind of guy, but admittingly, I’m falling down on step #3 (not shown); which is correctly opening up the 32400 Port, and setting up the correct Port Forwarding rules in my FiOS Router. Thought I was following all the Plex instructions and YouTube video instructions carefully, but perhaps I’m missing a key or additional configuration step in the Router, because it’s still not working. What else should I be doing, or what am I doing wrong?

Could use the help and expertise of those of you who also have Plex Media Server(s) attached to FiOS Routers.

I don’t use fios but if you go to canyouseeme.org and try each of the three external ports you used in your port forwarding rules does each say it is open?

Do you have FiOS Home Network Protection? A quick forum search turned up a couple of posts showing it interferes with Plex remote access.

If that does not fix things, can you post a screenshot of your port forwarding rules in the FiOS router?

Apparently only one of three servers is working remotely. I only see that port open. I have two other WD Cloud devices running PMS, but can’t get Remote Access working. I have the latest, upgraded router from Verizon FiOS. Very frustrating. I need to figure out how to correctly Port Forward manually. I’m obviously doing something wrong with the other two servers, because the third is working perfectly. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Just turned off Network Protection and will test out Remote Access again in the morning. Thanks for the suggestion, although not sure that was the problem, because as mentioned, Remote Access is working on one of the three WD devices. Keep you posted. Thanks again!
