hi, I have been using Plex for years. recently I noticed I cannot access my server on fire tv devices, also my family says the playback is choppy. I looked and saw that enable remote access is down. I reset it , still nothing. I use a on hub tp-link router. it says it does UPnP automatically. I also cannot do any updates on my server. please help.
So you have three problems:
- Can’t connect to Plex using Fire Tv
- Chopping playback
- Outdated Plex Server
And there’s the TP-link in the middle of all this.
Can we start from the most important? The update. You’re running a very old version.
Can you tell us what happens when you try to update it?
it will start to do the update and then it just stops and says update can’t be completed. I will try again and give more info
There was a problem installing the update:
Plex Media Server was started from a read-only location. Copy it to the Applications folder on your Mac and run it from there. that’s what I’m getting. I’m running version 1.19.1.2701
That’s exactly what you have to do. Plex can update it self because it has no write permissions, only reading.
Here’s how to install it on a Mac
so basically I have to reinstall Plex?
That’s what everybody do. It will overwrite the old one keeping only your information.

Can you please report back the OS your running on that Mac, as it must be Mavericks or newer?

Is there away to re-install plex and stuff without having to re-add and re-scan every movie and tv show?
