Hi all,
I first want to thank Plex Team for its work and the great solution that I use daily I’m still impressed by the power of the solution and I don’t regret to became a premium member.
However, I’m getting mad with one or two points bellow :
Why we can write ticket to technical support ? To be honest this is frustrating, espacially after months or seeking on the web, I was hoping you were my last chance…
The remote indicator is not stable. It is changing is status from a moment to another. It looks like it is not operating correctly or please precise why this behaviour if it’s normal.
Update soft version is tricky. Why don’t you do as everyone, a directory that we can choose including the package for updating the soft. I always download manually the APK but what is next step ? Why sometimes it’s updating, sometimes not ?.. (this can be easilly fixed up)
As 90% of NAS owner and Plex user I get trouble for my network. I get a modem + a routeur, I face double Nat or Port forwarding bad settings (I’m not network Ingeniere and I try first to find out solution on the web). However, network is a huge piece for rookies as I am and I don’t have that much time to train myself as much as I would like. So I go step by step, trying to get vocab and understing the major principles.
To me you could/should consider :
Doing a mobile app for the administrator that enables more options than the regular app. Especially a function for checking remote accessibility and maybe to measure performance. All this in the way to help us to set up correctly the network.
Sale a setup service assistance for people who don’t have time or comptences for setting up their domestic network. I’m sure you can create a bot that investigate the user network (with his agreement) and then helping him to set up correctly his network access.
I’m sorry, I guess that I won’t get any help because this is not the good place and the good way to ask help. However, as a “classic” consumer who is a bit involved by Doing It Myself (before asking help). But when you paid for unlocking all features then you discover that you can ask for help only for billing or legal purpose, it’s hard…
I really love the solution you provide and make sure that I recommand it a 100%. However as a perfectionnist and a basic consumer that I am, I look for perfection and I don’t want to turn back to school because my IT knoweldges are too limited. I wish you a great continuation and lots of success.
That’s by design and has been called out several times. Plex „optimistically“ assumes remote access is working while it’s performing a status check. This can result in you getting to see a green status indicator that’s turning red after a few seconds (up to 1-2 minutes in extreme cases).
In such a case… consider your remote access setup to not be working.
Not sure what trouble you’re experiencing. Installing an APK implies you’re on an Android system… so this is either about installing/updating PMS on a NVIDIA SHIELD (which should be working fine through the Play Store app) or you’re trying to install beta versions of a player on a mobile Android or Android TV device (where installations should also work through the Play store or the regular OS means).
Troubleshooting remote access issues can be very tricky as there’s many „moving parts“, some of them completely outside your control and most of them entirely outside what Plex can see (beyond pointing out you’re in a double NAT setup).
Did you already have a look at the related troubleshooting support article?
There’s also a guide with some more details on how to troubleshoot remote access issues. The findings/output of the individual steps will be key for any additional support/assistance.
First a thousand thanks for the time you spent by responding me point by point. I really appreciate
I’ve been many times on Troubleshooting Remote Access page from Plex support part. However, even translated in french or italian, my brain seems to be limited
I use to be a “Geek” and was not so bad but Network is a huge piece. First, to be honnest I discover the Nas evrionment and internet network and there are some questions that are not yet clear, even if I go for tutos like Network for Rookies… I undertood the difference between public IP and private one, That is why we all have 192.168.x.x. addresses on Lan. I also understood that having a modem + a wifi router can be messy/tricky. I also checked diffrence between UDO and TCP protocoles. I won’t say I did everything but I can’t say I didn’t do anything to find out my issue.
I also tried to buy a Link aggregation Switch (function that I already had on my Asus wifi routeur…) but I didn’t succed in either.
I think that I need to meet someone from network and speak with him about the structure and how it works deeply. After looking for hours (articles, videos, etc. …), I still do not understang how to set up a network. Not in theory but in pratical. Maybe I need some draws ? that helped me to understand the web structure (for e.g.).
Is there a sniffer available to highlight the wrong parameters ?
I also read that for classical consumers, as I am, the net poroviders could use CGNAT instead of NAT. Do you think I am correct to investigate this track ? If a public address can be used by more than one, this can make remote access trickier ?
Sorry for this long text. but as I said, I appreciated your answer and if you are still volonteer, I give you more details about my investigations/refections about my situation.
