I am running Plex on Linux Mint 18.2. Service is good on my home network. I can bring up live tv, DVR, movies from any tv tablet in the home.
But setting up remote access is giving me problems. The linux plex server and other media player devices is behind a linksys router which is behind the quantum gateway router/modem for Fios service.
I have setup port forwarding for both routers. Used IP address for Plex Server in the linksys router…and the internet address of the linksys in the quantum gateway and made its ip static…port 32400 start/end for both.
Google and YouTube have presented a number of variations to my scenario where I have not been successful with any. Would like correspondence with some one fairly knowledgeable of the remote access setup, linux, linksys wrt router. and Fios Quantum router…
Okay Now…I got the “Remote Access w/ Green Bullet check…marked” … The fix was to delete the Port forwarded in the Linksys and then Enable the UPnP of the Linksys. That did it. And now Remote Access displays “Fully Accessible Outside your Network…you Can Access this Server from Signed-In Plex Apps or in a browser at https://plex.tv/web…”
However, My first attempt at accessing remotely was from my Android Smartphone. Still at home I shut off Wifi connectivity and attempt to access Plex BroadBand and get warned “You are Not connected directly to this server so streaming quality may be limited…You may be able to connect directly by changing your home network settings…” Which lead me to think the Plex App is balking at the Media Server behind a router thats behind the ISP router rather than directly behind the ISP router. But that is my setup…(Not getting rid of the Linksys)…Will test this again from my local Coffee Shop/Spa/McDs that’s got Wifi…and post later…
This afternoon my server went unreachable Again… After it worked fine yesterday into at least last night…I had the greened check-mark for remote access available. I was able to pull up my local Over-The-Air and playback movies while at my local Gym. I still got the Indirect Connect Indicator but I am okay with that as long as I got remote service. It was at the gym today when I found I no longer had remote access. In fact I had a green indicator before I left the house…Now its red. No settings were changed and public and internal IPs are the same. My Plex just shut down its remote access. Please … I look forward to any and all suggestions…
Okay…It appears to be working…this time the ‘Remote Access Indicator is Greened Up’…Don’t know exactly what tweek I did to make this happen. But for now these are the settings on the two routers.
Quantum/Gateway router/modem… a. Firewall -> Port Forwarding … entered the Linksys IP w/ Destination Ports 32400 and configured TCP/UDP for 32400 and b. in the Advanced Setting verified that UPnP and Auto Clean both are checked…
The Linksys (DDWRT) router a. Going to NAT/QoS -> Port Forwarding … and setting Plex Server IP from : 32400 To: 32400 b. Confirm that UPnP service is enabled…
The ‘Remote Access’ status is fully accessible from outside my network…The Private IP setting has the IP of the Plex Server w/ 32400 and the Public IP setting is that given by my ISP w/ 32400 port. So this part hasn’t changed. Next…
Signed off my Account…Closed the Plex Browser Window…Waited a minute or two and then re-launched Plex…Logged back in…Now the button is Green. Go Figure!?..That was an hour ago…let me check again…and Okay its still Green. Also I was able to login into Plex from my Smartphone (WIFI turned Off) and play a movie. And I do not get the "Indirect Connect’ warning. So far So Good. Hopefully it will remain this way…And if no further incident I will re-post in a couple days this case is closed.
Please thanks for any replies/responses…they are still welcome…thank you…
