I’ve been having issues with Remote access not working. I have a manual IP set on my router for my mac server, I have a port forward set up, and firewall has allow Plex connections. Remote access will show as Green & available, but if you select advance settings, all show as empty with a red cross. Sometimes deleting the Port Forward rule in the router and making it again will work, sometimes not. Sometimes turning off remote access & quitting Plex then restarting Plex & re-enabling remote access will work, and again sometimes not. I have noticed that the Plex app will at some stage show a modified date of 1970. I’m not sure when that happens or what affect that can have, but today I tried downloading Plex again & replacing the ‘1970’ version with one showing 19/07/2018 and then clicked on remote access & it started up fine, with advanced settings all green too.
I am running OSX 10.13.6 on an early 2009 MacPro 4.1 (flashed to 5,1)
Could anyone else having issues with remote access on a mac let me know if their app is showing some weird modification date too?
I use a Mac running PMS as well. Remote access issues are almost always in your router settings. But to verify I would check a couple things.
Is the port accessible from the outside? there are web sites that can verify your port being open.
First verify that remote access is available in PMS (green check mark). Then verify your public port that you chose in PMS is accessible from the outside.
Let me know what comes back once you check.
The public port I have open on the router showed as open when Plex was showing Red X’s in the advanced settings. I used ‘can you see me’ a few times when I was having problems with Plex.
The port was also seen as being open when Plex couldn’t seem to start Remote Access.
Sorry I’m not sure I follow. When you go to http://canyouseeme.org right now, is your PMS remote port currently open?
Two questions
I assume you do, but you have the correct port in plex advanced settings for forwarding? You have put that port number into the manual box and applied?
Also if that is the case…i have had in the past flaky routers that do exactly what you are talking about…forward ports but then on the second application after a reboot have flaked out and not allowed plex to actually pass through. What kind of router are you using?
I have been wondering about that - Router is ISP supplied NetComm, but I don’t have another on hand to test. Will look into that next I guess.
So, started computer this morning. PMS says: Fully accessible outside your network, however under the advanced settings I get: Private Unknown IP x Public Unknown IP x Internet.
The port I have open on the router shows as being open when I test it (https://portchecker.co/check)
The manual port forward I have set is TCP only to 32400.
Because of where our house is, I get very flakey cellular coverage, so I can’t test the connection outside of my home network.
So, I turned off remote access and quit PMS and ran the port check which came back as: Port is closed.
I reopened PMS, left remote access off and tested port again. Port now open. I turned on remote access and: Fully accessible outside your network and now under advanced: Private 100.100.10.100 : 32400 Public 101.00.100.100 : 15800 Internet (not actual numbers)
Okay looks like you have the port forwarded correctly…yeah i think its the router. Its better than it used to be but flakey networking hardware is still all over. I would do some searches researching your specific piece of hardware looking at the version your isp supplies and see if others are having a similar experience.
Also from the fact you have Netcomm are you forwarding on lte/fixed wireless. I have heard of a lot of issues port forwarding on wireless connections but i have nothing solid. Also have you tried not forwarding a port and letting the autoconfigure do its work? You may have better luck with your setup.
I was originally using the UPnP function on the router and letting autoconfig work, but after a PMS update, and OS updates it seemed to stop working, so I reverted to a manual port forward. The host server is connected via ethernet only (wireless is turned off). The last two days I have been unable to get remote access to work at all. Plex says its connected, but under the advanced settings is all unknown & red x’s. It’s such a PIA!
