Remote access suddenly not working (never had any issue prior to this weekend)

Server Version#:1.18.1.2019 (just updated to this, issue started BEFORE update)
Player Version#: ???

I’m on a mac and been using Plex for years and literally never had any issues. I set it up, and it has simply always “worked” lol.

So, I know very little about the technical side of using plex but this seems like the exact issue others are having in that it just stopped working this weekend and I have no clue how to fix it.

I tried restarting my router, restarting the computer and the app itself on the mac but I still get the same issue under REMOTE ACCESS: “Not available outside your network”

I even updated to the latest 1.18.1.2019 (from 1.6 - the issue started BEFORE the update)

I tried checking the “manually specify port” box then hit “RETRY” and it seems to solve it for a few seconds, then goes right back to the above error.

Contacted my ISP and asked about getting a static IP (solved the issue for someone else) and no dice. Also was told that “CGNAT” did not apply to me? No clue what that means, but that is what I was told.

I don’t know much about “firewalls” or “ports” but I assume something like that is the problem?

32400 port seems selected also.

You need to blank out the public IP from that image…

Do you know what your router is and can you login to it and provide us details about your port forwarding setup in there?

Same issue. Thanks.

@benschicago please start your own forum thread so we can keep these issues separate.

It’s a NetGear R6200v2 from several years back. I can login but dont know what you need to know about “port forwarding”. If you can tell me I’ll gladly send the info lol.

Try following this documentation.

External port 32400
Internal port 32400
Private IP the IP of your Plex server
Protocol both

Found that section but don’t quite understand what I’m supposed to do. Never had to do anything like this previous so I’m not sure what this is.

You need to setup a port forward.

There are 2 ways remote access works, upnp which doesn’t require this port forwarding but is unstable and can break out of the blue or you can setup a port forwarding which tends to be much more stable and will work better for you long term.

Follow the instructions and if you have questions ask.

did this and just named it “plex”.

Does this look like what you’re asking?

If so, what now?

Yes I can’t see the server ip but as long as that is your Plex server IP you should be good

Go to canyouseeme.org and test port 32400 and see what it reports.

Looks like it’s working! Cant thank you enough and apologies for my dumbth!

One last thing…

Make sure your Plex server IP is set to static or else if it reboots it could get a new IP and break this setup.

Ok, where is that?
