Remote access turns off by itself - Users outside of my home are trying to view my Plex server, they can watch a video for a short time before it kicks them out

Server Version#: 1.22.3.4392-d7c624def
Player Version#: 1.22.3.4392

I have added some family members to my server under ‘users&sharing’. The setup process on that front was easy.

Just some background on my Server setup for internet speeds-
Download Speed - 600~mbps
Upload Speed - 600~mbps

Users setup is roughly the same as the server.

I have setup manual port forwarding on my router and when I open my server my remote access states " Not available outside your network " but when I click ‘retry’ it typically goes green and says " Fully accessible outside your network". Now, I haven’t been able to pin down exactly what then makes this go red again but it appears to happen on its own. I then have to click ‘retry’ again for it to go green.

When my users in ‘users&sharing’ go to view my content they are able to view it for a short time before it cuts it, when it does cut out and they go back to watch the content again my library is greyed out. They typically restart plex and wait some time before my library appears again. When they then view the same piece of content the quality gets locked at 360p and they cannot change it.

Could my server be going red in remote access because I do not have a static IP even though I have set up port forwarding? That seems to be the only logical thing I can think of. It does cost extra for me to get a static IP so if there is a better way to approach that then I am all ears.

Also, just to mention, I have no issue in my own home viewing any of the content. If I am outside of my network, however (e.g. trying to view the content using my account on one of the user’s TVs) I have the same issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is driving my mad!

Thanks

Did you tell Plex about the manually created port forwarding? Otherwise it won’t use it.

If you mean clicking the tickbox next to “Manually specify public port” in ‘Remote Access’ and entering the port I specified then, yes. Do you mean something else by chance?

Yes, exactly. After doing so, did you verify whether this port forwarding is actually working? canyouseeme.org

It is also often the case that the menu items in some router are labelled very confusingly. So you may have unknowingly e.g. swapped the input fields for external and internal port numbers, or may have even activated a different feature which is not a port forwarding at all.
I don’t want to suggest that this may be the case here, but I don’t know how much experience you have. And I have seen this happening again and again.

I’ve verified that I can see myself on canyouseeme.org, thanks for the tip!

No worry about suggesting anything! This could well be the case, I believe I have set everything up correctly. I will dive back in and see if there is anything strange going on with the way the fields are labelled and will come back to this thread when I have more.
Thanks!
