First hat I am using:
Synology DS918+
PMS newest version 1.28.2.x on DSM 701
FritzBox Router 7590
I want to have remote access on my PMS, but not over the standard port 32400. When I set a portforward in my router with 32400 it works fine stable. When I set a other port like 32541 or something else in this range, the connection will be established and I reach the the PMS from outside for couple of seconds, sometimes minutes. After this the connection brakes, not stable connection is possible. Cant understand this behavior. Have no idea where I can check why the connection will be disconnect.
Have anyone a idea what I can do or where I can find more information.
Is there a possibility to reset only the remote access and network settings completly without losing my librarys ?
If it says “publicly accessible” for a few seconds then changes, it never really worked. That is Plex trying to enable remote access. When it fails, it changes back to “not accessible.”
Remote Access has nothing to do with your libraries. Changing settings for one will not affect the other.
This works on my system, DS918+ & Asus RT-AC68U router.
Make sure your port forwarding statement is configured correctly.
External port: 32541
Internal port: 32400 ← always
In Settings → Remote Access, enter the external port number and check the box for Manually Specify Public Port.
Checking the box is important. It tells Plex to use the manual port instead of UPnP.
CanYouSeeMe.org: To check that remote access port is open
From a system on the same network as your Plex server, go to the website.
The Public Address should match what is shown on the Plex Remote Access settings page.
Enter your remote access port number and choose Check Port. It will report back whether or not it can reach your server.
Thank you for your answers. I will check with the website if the port is really openend.
The settings are set all correct as discribed from you.
There is one morething which I cant understand. I make a portforwarding in my router with port 32400. The checkbox in plex settings for manually port is unchecked and I et also no stable connection. I first have to aktivate the checkbox manually port and enter the 32400. Only this combination etablish the stable connection. Cant understand why plex cant go out with unchecked manually port setting because it shouldalso take the 32400 or ?
As I am starting with plex 2 years ago, everything worked fine. One day it was not longer possible and this day I cant find the problem. I thought maybe the problem appears with an update of my PMS. So I thought maybe there is an damaged setting in a configuration file, which I cant repair with makes over the interface.
Plex uses TCP/32400 for remote access. Forwarding UDP will have zero effect.
The checkbox must be checked to use manual port forwarding.
Using Automatic Port Forwarding / UPnP for Remote Access
If you do not check the “manually specify” box, Plex will attempt to use UPnP for remote access. This is perfectly fine. However, you must have UPnP enabled on your router.
The port number may change whenever Plex Media Server is restarted. This is expected and OK. The port number used by Plex will be displayed on the Remote Access page next to the public IP address.
Given your description, it seems like your system is using UPnP for remote access. If it works and is stable, you may just want to leave it that way.
Thank you for your help. My written english is not the best, but I understand what you write me. And this really helps very to understand it better and now finding the solution.
I make now some different tests and find out, that the manually portforward in my router was the problem. This problem could I also now fix. Now my remote access works fine with my chosen individual port.
