Remote Access with multiple network devices? (extenders)

I have an eero Pro 6E that is my main router and it is sending a wireless signal to another eero pro 6e that is acting like an extender. I have my server plugged into that. I am getting an error message that says " Your server is signed in to Plex, but is not reachable from outside your network. Tip: It looks like your server may be connected to the internet through multiple routers or other network devices. Try connecting it directly to your primary device, or visit our support site for more information about troubleshooting this “Double-NAT” scenario. "

Could the extender be the problem? My routers are UpnP enabled. Thank you in advance.

The second mesh device is most likely not the problem. With mesh networks, only the main device should act as a router.

To what is the main eero Pro 6e connected?

That is possibly acting as a router as well, which places Plex in a double NAT situation.

Another possibility is that your ISP uses CG-NAT addressing, which is incompatible with Plex remote access.

Contact your ISP and ask if they use CG-NAT addressing. If they do, ask if they can provide a unique, public IPv4 address that supports port forwarding. The address does not have to be static (dynamic is OK), but many times will be.

The main eero has the glofiber cable from outside straight into it. Then like I said, it shoots signal to the other device which is a router too. I have my mac (the server) wired into it for internet access.

Sorry but this other stuff is over my head. But thanks for sharing! I am going to try to spend some time going over it to understand it

Let’s say I get that IPv4 address. What do I do with it?

The problem with CG-NAT addressing is that it does not support port forwarding. Also, the public IP address used when you cruise the Internet is shared with others.

Plex needs a unique IP address, one not shared with others, for remote access to function.

When the ISP assigns the address, you can use either UPnP (automatic port forwarding) or manual port forwarding to enable remote access.

The public IP address will be registered at plex.tv. Then, when you, or someone to which you grant access, wants to stream remotely from your server, the client (app) checks with plex.tv, which tells them the public IP address of your server. Then they can stream remotely.

There’s some more handshaking regarding logins, which libraries, are shared, etc., but that is the basics.

Getting back to configuration…

You’ll configure remote access in Settings → Remote Access. If you use manual port forwarding you will also need to configure a port forwarding statement in the eero router (it tells the router to forward the packets to your Plex server).

The basics are covered in Plex Docs → Remote Access & Granting Library Access.
