TL;DR - My Pixel 3’s Plex app cannot see my server library. Regular browser web client however, works perfectly fine remotely.
I recently moved to a new house. Switched ISPs from Comcast to Sonic Fiber. Also got a new router (Unifi USG). Also updated Plex server software on my Mac Mini at home to the latest version.
I set up port forwarding on the router, and on the Plex admin, set up a manually specific public port. The Plex admin shows a nice green check indicating remote access is working fine.
I can see the library remotely via the web client in a browser just fine outside the network.
I can NOT see the library via the Plex android client on my Pixel 3 from outside the network. Cannot see the Library name anywhere in the UI.
I have tried logging out and back in on both the server and the android app. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the android app. Nothing works.
Can you access your server from the Pixel 3’s browser while outside your home network?
If remote access generally works but not on an individual device that could indicate some network filtering by the provider of your mobile data plan. However… before drawing conclusions, let’s rule out some other options
Turns out, it was a network problem but not with the mobile carrier. At work, mobile devices are relegated to a guest network, while laptops are on the main network. There must be some kind of firewall or stronger ruleset on the guest network that somehow prevents Plex traffic from coming through. That explains why the browser on my laptop worked.
Turning off WiFi on my phone (and reaching Plex through the mobile carrier) worked just fine to see my library.
