Sorry if this has been posted before, I didn’t see it.
I have set manual port forwarding in my router just as I’ve done with the old one. In plex when I go to remote access it’s work fine for a while but then it’ll say not available outside your network.
All I need to do to restore it is press the “Retry” button next to the manually specify port button. I haven’t figured out exactly how long it’ll work for but will keep an eye on it today.
Call me crazy. It hasn’t gone out since posting this…
Exact same issue - any idea what fixed it? Trying to enable remote access through a new Google Nest mesh networking gear.
Remote access runs for about 5 seconds (green message) followed by the red message.
Well, not 100% sure what was the main fix. I already had UPNP running for something else so changed Plex to set the port automatically. (uncheck the manually specify port) and removed the port forwarding I had put in the router.
I also logged into the PC running it, made sure it was 100% up to date and also leave the Remote access page open at all times on that computer.
Now, it’ll still show the red text “Not available outside your network” error but when I use my phone off wifi I can still connect remotely.
Well, it went out again. Cleared when I clicked “APPLY” again. Had to remote desktop to my PLEX server in order to get access again.
No idea what’s causing it.
Not sure if will help. i have an arris modem with google wifi. I also had this issue. Several years ago and honestly had given up. Now Im using Plex more and needed remote access. What helped me was:
In the Arris modem turned off all firewalls. Dont need them cause Google Wifi takes care of this.
Confirmed that the 2.4 & 5gh were in bridge mode. Turns out 1 was 1 wasnt.
Added port forwarding trigger 32400 for both portals. rebooted modem.
then went to google wifi, port management, added port forwarding to the location of my plex server on both portals at 32400.
Reboot Google wifi.
So far so good. Hope this helps.
That indicates that it didn’t use your manually created port forwarding.
If the checkbox “Manually specify public port” is not ticked, once you click ‘Apply’, Plex will negotiate a portforwarding with your router automatically.
And many routers nowadays will delete these automatically created portforwardings after a few hours/days.
Therefore: always create the portforwarding manually in the settings of your router and tell Plex about it, by ticking the checkbox and inserting the external port number behind.
I can’t believe I made a simple mistake. I had forgotten I moved the server to my NAS instead of a PC I have for my IP cameras. So I was forwarding the port to the wrong device! Once I corrected it to forward to my NAS instead it’s worked ever since. Barring a few crashes but that might be from using a 4 year old NAS and more transcodes at once than I used to do.
