Remote Access

I originally installed Plex on Windows 7 HP laptop. A little over a year ago I installed it on Toshiba Windows 8.1 laptop.
Now , I’m trying to get Remote Access working on the Toshiba but it does not work.
My home router is as Asus RT-AT66R. UpNp is enabled. Also, for info, most of my media content is stored on a WD network attached storage device. AND remote access to the WD works fine. I’m not sure why remote access worked so easily with the WD but not with Plex. ??
Please advise.
Thanks!

Not having a WD, I can’t answer how it works, but the more reliable connection would be to set up your Plex machine with a fixed IP (thru your router) and port forward the port you are using for plex to that IP (again, through your router interface).

So with your setup the media is stored on the WD and the PMS is installed on the Toshiba?

I setup port forwarding to my desktop that has the PMS installed. I used the default port of 32400. I also use No-ip.com service so that I have a hostname instead of having a static public IP. Your router might have a feature to sync your hostname to your Public(WAN) IP. I have a script on my router that does it.

Port forward 32400 to the PMS IP then navigate(outside of your local LAN) to http:\Publicaddress:32400/web__

Might be a good idea to see if you can get the web interface while you are inside you network. Just replace the Publicaddress with your local address.

Hi,
I never got this solved. And now I want to connect Plex to my Sonos and the first thing they say is to get Plex Remote access working.
Can we please setup a remote session so you can help me finally get this setup?
I am using an ASUS RT-AC66R router. I can see that it is UpnP enabled.
Also, I have disable WIndows firewall and the Plex Remote still fails.
Please advise.
Thanks!
