Im sure this has been asked a thousand times. I am unable to access my flex server remotely. For example I have the plex app on my iPad. When Im on the local network I see it and all is good, but when I’m no longer on the network my Plex app says it couldn’t connect to my Plex server. I looked in the settings and the remote access is on and has a green check beside it. What am i missing? there has to be an easy way to do this. Thanks
remote access appears to have been corrupted in the latest plex version update. Too many posts to count over the last month re: remote access was working but now fails. Appears to be happening across operating systems and browsers. Plex has done nothing and said nothing to date. pi$$ed 0ff, to say the least.
Sometimes when this happens it means your Plex server isn’t signed in correctly any more. Try signing out on your Plex server, then signing back in again.

That same response was just posted on another thread here: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1268971#Comment_1268971 . My response was:

Certainly doesn’t work here. I’m not saying @Degenaars is wrong. but I will say this doesn’t make any sense; if I’m logged, I’m logged in. That said, I’ve seen that on my Ubuntu server, restarting the plexmediaserver results in a brief moment of perfect remote acceess greenlight, after which it returned to fail state. THAT doesn’t make sense either, but it happens. Maybe this is an authorization issue swith plex servers…? eh @plex ?The Crusty One

Sure, but just because it didn’t work for you, doesn’t mean it won’t solve the OP’s problem. So rather than ranting in other people’s threads, why not try to be constructive and help?
Okay, sure… Sorry. Maybe you should try logging out and logging back in… I’m sure that’ll fix it…
wow… Flies and honey here…
To the OP:
What port do you have set in the PMS Settings -> Remote Access -> Manually Specify Port?
What port(s) do you have forwarded to your PMS machine on your router? Is the PMS machine set with a static IP? Can you see the port is opened when you go to http://canyouseeme.org and test the port? Does it show the same external IP your router has on it’s landing or remote connections page?
What version of PMS are you running? (And not the Web App, but the actual server version number, please? Settings -> General -> Version)
Do you have Jumbo Frames enabled on your server device? An MTU higher than 1500 can generally create problems with PMS installs, and is a leading culprit with remote connection failures.
All of these steps can be seen in this support document: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200931138-Troubleshooting-Remote-Access. It has been extremely rare that these steps haven’t resolved an issue I have helped others with. As of right now, that’s close to 200+ installs, so these are the common problems. The rarest ones are usually a hidden double NAT with an apartment, barracks or dorm provided ISP. Those are hard to resolve, because of no access to the “main” router.
