I have enabled remote access on my plex media server, have set the computer to have a static IP, have set up the static IP on my modem/router and have configured port forwarding on the modem/router. The modem/router I am using is a Ubiquiti Amplifi HD.
I have tried play media from my server on my mobile using mobile data and on another mobile in another location but keep receiving an error “Unable to play media”. It does display all the media however.
When I connect my phone back to my home wifi and try play the media, there are no issues.
Am I missing a configuration setting for media to be playable from outside my network? The remote access tab on the server settings states that it is Fully Accessible outside the network
Do you get a more detailed error message when you try playing that media? If Plex attempts to start the playback… what information is showing in the “now playing” tile for that playback on the Plex server dashboard?
Any restrictions when it comes to your internet access? Some ISPs still give a very low upload bandwidth which will impact how fast you can stream media to the outside of your home network.
Any restrictions set to the remote/internet video playback quality on that Android device of yours?
Is your server powerful enough to deal with the potentially needed transcoding to meet the requested remote video quality requirements or network restrictions?
PS: no need to set a static IP to your computer on that very computer if you have your modem/router configured to assign the same IP to the computer. That being said… this is not going to be your current issue – might be helpful to avoid hiccups if you ever get a new router.
Did you get any solution for this? Seems that 2 days ago, my friends could not access anymore. I am seeing ‘Fully accessible outside your network’ but if I try to use mobile data to check this, I cannot find my server. - This has worked flawlessly for the last 5 years, on the same router, and same ISP.
No i did not. I had all the port forwarding rules required and a powerfully enough server but never worked. Nothing appeared in the dashboard when trying to play and I haven’t had the time lately to look folurther into it
Been checking around the forum, seems that people had problems with until they installed that 1.20.3.3483 update. However, that’s where I started having problems. I tried 1.20.4.3517, but no good, and went back to 1.20.3.3437, but still no good.
The general symptoms are that you get ‘Fully accessible’ for a short while, like 3-4 min, but then it taps out and says not available.
I can remote in via Windows Remote desktop using the IP via mobile internet, so its not a problem with the PC being locked away. Something has changed on plex side.
