[REQ] MyPlex login per ATV

Hello there Plexconnect devs,

Im not sure if this is going to happen or discussed but I thought I would share it anyway.

The whole Plexconnect (which i love) would be 100x more secure if it would be made that when a new ATV connects through it, the first time you need to sign in with your myplex account after which you will get to see the library and everything of that specific user on that specific ATV. Once signed in, you will stay signed in on that ATV untill you sign out.

Is this possible and/or coming?

Question is... do your other clients act this way?

Isn't that already build into PMS? "require authentication"?

What am I missing?

the new Plex Home theater will also act this way yes, it will ask you to login at first run. In this case it has nothing to do with PMS, if i would install 3 Apple TV's in our LAN or on the net and set the DNS to wherever plexconnect is installed, you can just connect to the plex library without the need to login basically, which simply makes it open for everyone if they know the right IP and just set it towards someone's plexconnect server (that is if the port is open ofcourse). If it would ask for a login for each ATV just once, it would secure things and each user would have their own watch/unwatched status ondeck and so on.

>> you can just connect to the plex library without the need to login basically,

Only if your PMS does allow the access, right? Why should the client (I see PlexConnect as a multi-user client...) do the authorization? Isn't a Server in charge of securing it's content? This is what "require authentication" option in PMS is for, isn't it?

Plex/HT just has a wizard at first run to allow the user to punch in their login - the only way it adds to security is by ensuring people have entered their myPlex login.  It doesn't add any real security functionality into the client.  Local server auth still needs to be configured and enabled for anything to actually happen security wise.

it would be great this feauture

+1

I guess I still don't understand.

"Secure" your PMS to require authentication and there is all you need, isn't it? You won't get any library/media unless signed in into MyPlex.

What is the new feature? This "MyPlex Sign In wizard"?

Nope, you get it.  It does nothing but "force" a myPlex login earlier in the user experience.  The result, whether they log into myPlex through the wizard, or later manually, is identical.

Setting every PMS to "require authentication" will also force you to sign in, right? I mean, if your Library/Channels don't get populated you have to do something...

As PMS still allows media usage without signing in, why should the client prevent it?

Agreed or it is really back to front.

Correct but i think it semi work with Plexconnect.

I have enable require authentication to Plex.

I have created 2 plex accounts. One has the server (plexpass) and another account (not plexpass) just for viewing. I share the server with the view account.

Now when i open plex server with the webrowser (local and remote) it asks me for username password. Both plexpass and view account are working i can login , see folder , play movie..

When i try to connect to myplex with the plexconnect with the username password of plexpass i can see the server and wokring fine but when i try to login with the view account it saying We failed to reach a server . Reason : Unauthorized.

Believe this is because myplex is not yet fully implemented?
