Rescan can't find channel that changed to UHF

The 11.1 broadcast channel in Minneapolis changed their transmission from VHF to UHF yesterday at noon. When I tried to rescan, Plex is unable to pick up the new UHF signal. It only finds the old VHF signal on 11.11. The Hauppauge WinTV software finds the channel outside of Plex, so I know the tuner is capable of finding the channel.

Is some kind of update to the guide by Plex necessary so that the server knows where to look for this channel on the UHF frequency?

I’m running into this same problem. I’ve done several rescans and deleted the DVR and set it up again.

Channel 11.11 there’s no match for it in the list. I tried mapping it to 11.1 but that results in the VHF channel playing.

+1 for this issue.

Three HDHomeRun boxes here. Using the HDHomeRun software, I can do a rescan and tune and watch the new UHF-based channel 11.

Rescanning the channels on the HDHR boxes with the Plex DVR does not show the UHF channel. (It’s OTA 31, FWIW. See also Minneapolis, MN - OTA | Page 248 | AVS Forum

Since the HDHR software can control the HDHR boxes to receive and display the new UHF-based channel 11, it’s clearly not an antenna or any sort of hardware problem.

Is it the case the the Local Broadcast listing for, e.g., 55410 needs to be updated to be aware of a new potential item on OTA 31?

Does anyone at Plex look at these posts, or is there some official support page that I can report this problem on? I would have expected this to be resolved by now.

Count me in on this issue as well. I posted in a different post but i’ll copy/paste what i have over there in here.

I have no idea if this is the right forum, but our local OTA provider for NBC changed from VHF to UHF and updated their guide numbers. Originally it was 11.1 for KARE-TV and now they’ve moved that to 11.11 and updated 11.1 to KARE-HD. I can watch the correct channel (11.1. 11.11 just plays a how-to video from the news channel on updating your channel guide) from my HDHR app on my computer, but when i try and play it through PLEX (before and after a full rescan) it still associates the guide channel 11.1 to 11.11.

Things i’ve tried:
clearing db cache
debugging the minified JS to modify the payloads coming back from certain endpoints.

The second step there i noticed that this endpoint:

https://[privatestuff].plex.direct:32400/media/grabbers/devices/1/channels?X-Plex-Product=Plex%20Web&X-Plex-Version=4.63.0&X-Plex-Client-Identifier=[private]&X-Plex-Platform=Chrome&X-Plex-Platform-Version=94.0&X-Plex-Sync-Version=2&X-Plex-Features=external-media%2Cindirect-media&X-Plex-Model=bundled&X-Plex-Device=Windows&X-Plex-Device-Name=Chrome&X-Plex-Device-Screen-Resolution=1920x579%2C1920x1080&X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxx&X-Plex-Language=en

was returning duplicate information based on the key:

<DeviceChannel key="triplet://0:1589:3" identifier="11.11" name="KARE-TV" drm="0" hd="0" favorite="0" signalStrength="99" signalQuality="88"/>

<DeviceChannel key="triplet://0:1589:3" identifier="11.1" name="KARE-HD" drm="0" hd="0" favorite="0" signalStrength="100" signalQuality="97"/>

I followed some oother endpoints and matched that key above to some more responses and noticed that there was 2 entries for the one key but one had missing information.

{
        "channelKey": "5fc76e23eb8098002d84fed2-5fc705f7088e7d002d4c718e",
        "deviceIdentifier": "triplet://0:1589:3",
        "favorite": "0",
        "lineupIdentifier": "11.1",
        "enabled": true
    },
    {
        "deviceIdentifier": "triplet://0:1589:3",
        "favorite": "0",
        "enabled": false
    },

I dont know where the first endpoint thats returning the xml is coming from but it does correspond to the information i see in the hdhomerun_setup.exe app. I have a pretty old tuner so i cant favorite or exclude channels and it seems like PLEX is doing some nifty matching based on deviceIdentifier and channelKey and is choosing the incorrect channel when i get to the point where i map channels to EPG.

Has anyone ran into this or have any ideas? Super annoying that i cant mux my own channels like i used to with tvheadend (albeit a super big pain).

From hdhomerun_config scan i see:

SCANNING: 575000000 (us-bcast:31)
LOCK: 8vsb (ss=100 snq=86 seq=100)
TSID: 0x0635
PROGRAM 3: 11.1 KARE-HD <-- the new one
PROGRAM 4: 11.2 CourtTV
PROGRAM 5: 11.3 Crime
PROGRAM 6: 11.4 Quest
PROGRAM 7: 11.5 Circle

SCANNING: 201000000 (us-bcast:11)
LOCK: 8vsb (ss=99 snq=84 seq=100)
TSID: 0x0635
PROGRAM 3: 11.11 KARE-TV <-- the old one

I also did submit the EPG guide inconsistency form with this information but havent heard back at all.

One other thing of note is that if you deselect ALL channels after a scan, it still shows 1 channel matched which is the KARE-HD channel but it doesnt show up in the actual list.

When it does its mapping it shows for me 64 channels, but 61 match

One correction to your post is that they changed from VHF to UHF.

Same issue here. Upon KARE 11 moving from VHF to UHF, rescans are not pulling in the main 11.1 channel on UHF. It only pulls in the previous VHF version, now on 11.11

I’ve done multiple scans, deleted and rebuilt the DVR and so far no success in getting 11.1 to actually play. It does pull in the correct guide data, but only plays the 11.11 rescan message.

Same here, tried switching between 2 different antennas (home made ala iFixit and Mohu leaf-type). Sony TV picked up new channel after first rescan, which is annoying, but tells me it’s possibly a Plex-specific issue.

I have the same issue. I’ve got a Hauppauge PCI quad TV tuner. It shows up as two separate tuner cards in Plex that I’ve named DVR1 and DVR2. Both of these tuners in turn have two tuners.

Rescanning leaves 11.1 on DVR1 and added removed it from DVR2. Oddly DVR2 has a new channel: 11.11.

I’ve added both these channels but only have 11.1 in the guide to tune into. I then disabled each of these tuners and then tuned into 11.1 again forcing the channel to be picked up on each one to test them. I can only get the message that KARE 11 is moving.

Below is the initial screen and then the two separately listed tuners showing the difference for KARE. I assume I want the HD version which is what I have selected currently.

Does anyone know how to get any actual support from Plex on this? How do we get in touch with someone at Plex to get a response on this? I would like to at least get some acknowledgment that they’re aware of this issue and working on a solution. It’s been a week. Shouldn’t a lifetime Plex Pass entitle me to some support for issues like this?

I’m not sure if anyone else has done this or not, but it might not hurt to fill out the form linked to in this post.

I did report the EPG error several days ago, but I’ve not received any acknowledgment of it.

@KLW_MN thanks for reporting it. As I mentioned in the other sister thread, I don’t know if this is an EPG problem or Plex DVR issue. It seems to me it’s on the DVR end, since the EPG has 11.1, it’s just that Plex refuses to acknowledge the tuners finding the new frequency. And we all know the tuners find it. I expect Plex to display all the channels from the scan and let me decide which EPG matches are valid.

I paid for Plex but if I could figure out a way for NextPVR to run smoothly on my NAS I would have dumped Plex a while ago.

I have also reported the EPG error. This is completely frustrating as this is my backup to DISH - which is currently in a dispute with Tenga so they don’t provide any guide data which renders the DISH DVR capability just as useless as it is on Plex now. I would really like to dump DISH. Maybe it is time to look at a third solution…

Not sure what I did, that may be different than you guys. I had my HDHR Extend rescan for channels, and then I just ran a guide refresh in Plex. I didn’t do a single other thing.

I must be in the same market as the original post and have the same problem. I am using at winTV-QUADHD tuner also which comes into Plex as 2 separate 2-tuner units. I rescanned several other TVs and another standalone DVR in my home without issue getting the updated signal to take. I just rescan and the change works. I tried rescanning for the new frequency on the WinTV tuners, but keep getting the same result as the thread. I no longer see a 11.1 channel appear in my available channels but do see a 11.11 which has the guide assignment showing it for 11.1 like the original post images. I believe Kare 11 is using 11.11 as their messaging station to explain the update. I tried deleting the tuner cards all together and reloading with no change in results. My scans are not seeing a 11.1 in rescans, like the tuner isn’t able to grab the new signal. I am also contacting the station directly to verify some of the details and ask for additional advice.

Help on this topic is appreciated. I am starting to run out of ideas.

I have confirmed that that the feed for 11.11 is actually the feed that provides the looping messaging about rescanning for the new channel. I changed the TV guide listing for 11.11 to 11.2 after temporarily disabling that channel. Then, when I go to the guide and see 11.2 it was showing the rescan messaging. Looks like the real issue is that the tuner doesn’t identify the new 11.1 anymore.

I’ve tried exactly the same thing you have with same result. It seems like Plex doesn’t know to look for a signal on that frequency and goes right over it.
