Plex finds 978 channels during scan, but lists only 19-20

Server Version#: 1.23.1.4602 (current one as of now, on Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS)
Player Version#: 1.31.1.2262-74fdc6b7 (Plex for Windows)

Hi everyone, after I re-aligned my satellite dish since the signal quality got worse, I thought it’s a good idea to run another channel scan, but Plex started to behave in a strange way: During the scan, it has found 900+ channels, but after Plex has finished, it shows either 19 or 20 of them in the channel scan result list.

The dish alignment is fine since I am able to tune every channel I need using my Samsung TV and a Sat2IP app on my tablet. It is even more strange that the result list only consists of channels of the first four transponders of the satellite I use (Astra 19.2 E), please see the screenshots below. With every new channel scan, the list is made of channels of 2-3 of the four first transponders, that’s why the list shows either 19 or 20 channels.

Since the “Plex Tuner Service” log clearly states it has found between 919 and 978 channels with each scan I tried, I’m a bit lost now.
After a few restarts of Plex and manually cleared cache at /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Caches, as well as reboots of the Sat2IP server, I think I did everything I can so I hope someone is able to either confirm that he has the same situation or could give me some advice what to do next, e.g. removing the DVR completely from Plex, since even after deleting it using the UI, Plex still remembers the 19 or 20 channels.

Situation before the first “faulty” channel scan (I always take screenshots of my Plex DVR setup since I made the experience that something, even if it is just the amount of activated channels gets mixed up during DVR setup):

This is my scan setup:

Plex shows 900+ channels during scan (please see also the attached tuner logs):

The scan result is poor as described:

Thanks for your help!

Notice all those “key” icons in the 3rd column? They mean the channel is encrypted. Plex won’t do anything with these.

Hi @OttoKerner, thank you, I noticed the encrypted channels, but this has (unfortunately) nothing to do with my problem, since the 36 channels I was watching before (see my screenshot of the situation before) were unencrypted. With a normal channel scan, I would see a total list of 900+ channels I could pick from, but the current scan result list is only 19/20 channels long.

Hi guys, I did a few more tests and started to downgrade my Plex setup.
According to my apt logs, I had the versions 1.23.1.4602-280ab6053 and 1.22.3.4523-d0ce30438 installed, before I upgraded to 1.23.1.4602-280ab6053. I tried both older versions, but finally had luck with 1.22.3.4523-d0ce30438.

Without changing anything else, but just downgrading Plex to the mentioned version, the scan result list is complete now and shows the same amount of channels like the Plex Tuner Service log:

Has any newer version introduced a regression bug?

Is there anything additional I can provide to allow debugging? I’m still using the older version and am ready to perform some tests if required.

Actually, I fear to upgrade Plex to the latest version and again loose my channels when I start another channel scan

I had the exact same problem using the latest version, it found 54 channels (antenna), but only 2 was listed as found.

As soon as I downgraded to version 1.22.3.4523-d0ce30438 it gave all 54 channels back to the list.

I had the same problem in one of the last releases. I no longer have it in the current version because the channel search no longer works at all. (See Scan Channel doesn't do anything)
I bought Plex primarily for TV recording. In my case, however, this has not worked properly for six months. At first there was no EPG available for my TV provider (Kabelsignal/Austria) for a long time and now the channel search does not work.
It’s very annoying.

I’m in a similar state as @mail_justmike_at where I have had an unusable Plex DVR for the better part of a year. With each new upgrade I try to set it up from scratch but it fails the same way. Luckily the DVR was an ancillary benefit but I’d like to have it working as new episodes of my shows will be coming out soon.

Is there anyone from Plex watching this thread who could give us a feeling that they are actively working on analyzing the problem?

Hi @chrishoage, is there a chance that the Live TV & DVR team takes a look on this issue, too?

Hi @bbbenjie,

I am unable to reproduce this issue, so I’d like to collect some additional info from you to track down where the problem is occurring. The easiest way would be if you could export data from Chrome Developer Tools for me.

First, please use the hosted Web app (app.plex.tv), so you are on the latest code. Then, with Chrome Dev Tools open, I’d like you to delete and recreate your DVR, and then from the Network tab in Dev Tools, right click on any entry and select “Save all as HAR with content”. Then please DM me the file (it will have your token in it so don’t post it here), and I will investigate. Thanks!

Emily

Hi @emilybersin, many thanks for taking a look on my issue.
Sorry for the delay, I will share the requested data via PM either today or tomorrow evening.

Thank you,
Benjamin

Hi @emilybersin, I’ve sent you HAR files and screenshots off different tests before and after upgrading from 1.22.3.4523 to the latest Plex server version 1.23.3.4707. On the newest server version, the issue started to happen again, no matter which client I was using (the latest Plex Web client on app.plex.tv, the older one shipped with my Plex server or the current Plex for Windows app).

I will downgrade my Plex now again to version 1.22.3.4523.

Thank you,
Benjamin

I have same issues.
On log i found this:
Using LCN map for network 1000
183 LCN services were found out of which 6 were matched

And yes, only the 6 matched displayed.
How the match is made? Becuse the first scan runs before the XMLTV setup, so it cant match with the EPG data.

Downgraded to 1.22.3.4523 and it works.

Has someone seen that the issue is gone on his Plex server after upgrading to one of the latest versions?

Still the same with the latest version. No improvement. :frowning: Very annoying.

I’m trying to set this up…more than 1000 channels found and only 16 channel available.

Will this be fixed? I bought Plex Pass actually for DVR aswell.

I have the same problem. finds over 500 stations in the search and at the end only 12 in the selection.

I cannot play the stations found either. Plex says to check my tuner

I have a Synology DS916 + and a Fritzbox 6591

Dear Plex team, please fix the problem

Hi Plex team,
It’s sad to see that it’s almost half a year ago that this ticket was opened while many users have complained (and still do!) that they face the same issues.
Expressive log files and screenshots were shared in June, and the last PM response from @emilybersin, saying that investigation is ongoing was in July, but I have never received any feedback after that.

May we get any updated feedback on that? Any chance that this issue gets addressed and fixed?

These guys have the same problem:
